  2. Know the safety equipment • Eye wash fountain • Safety shower • Fire extinguisher • Emergency exits • Emergency Gas Shut Off

  3. Know where the safety equipment is • Label your safety equipment map

  4. Always follow directions! • Whether they are verbal or written directions! • Do not “try” your own experiments! • Read then reread the directions or chemicals you are handling

  5. PROTECT YOUR EYES • Always wear GOGGLES!

  6. Wear appropriate protective clothing • Do not wear loose clothing to lab • It may dip into chemicals or into an open flame • Tie back loose hair • Closed toe shoes • Closed toe shoes protect your feet from broken glass and spills

  7. No eating or drinking! • Do not eat or drink at lab to ensure you do not ingest any chemicals • NO chewing gum • Do not apply makeup/chapstick at lab

  8. Do not smell any chemicals directly! • If told to smell, waft the vapors • DO NOT put your nose to the beaker

  9. No horseplay or practical jokes • Lab is a place for serious work! • Do not endanger anyone else because you are immature!

  10. Know when to say something! • If you spill something and are uncertain about it tell your teacher! • No matter how small or big! • If glassware breaks, let your teacher know immediately!

  11. At the end of lab… • Clean up your lab station and place items in the correct place • Wipe down your lab station with paper towels and soap • Wash your hands with soap and water before exiting

  12. Know how to dispose of waste • Dispose of all waste materials according to your instructional procedure or your teacher’s instructions ? ? ? ?

  13. Can you tell the difference between a hot and cold beaker? • NO! • Always use tongs, gloves, or hot hands when handling hot glassware!
