  5. Important Information 1. Infrared wavelengths are longer than those of visible light. 2. Gives off heat and is used to keep food warm without cooking it too long. 3.   12. Microwaves • Definition: microwaves are EM waves that have a length in the range of centimeters. They are slightly longer than infrared light, which in turn is slightly longer than visible light. • Frequency range: 109 – 1011

Microwaves • Microwaves are used in microwave ovens to heat substances from the inside out quickly by making the molecules vibrate. • Microwaves are used in telecommunication in some mobile phones. • Microwaves are invisible as their frequency/wavelength is less than that of visible light.   14. Ultraviolet • Definition: A light wave just beyond violet in the visible light spectrum with higher energy and shorter wavelengths than visible light. • Frequency range: 1014.8 to 1015.5 Sunscreen helps prevent sunburn from ultraviolet radiation produced from the sun.
