  1. Plans for Clock Distributionand Timing Issues for the RPCs D.Ungaro Helsinki Institute of Physics D. Ungaro

  2. Overview • Clock distribution description in the RPC system • General requirements D. Ungaro

  3. BARI to Level-1 trigger WARSAW FEB FEB TRIGGER BOARD HELSINKI/WARSAW FEB RPC SPLITTER LINK BOARD FEB READOUT BOARD FEB 90 m @ 1.6Gbit/s S-link to DAQ FEB up to 5 m LVDS @ 80MHz 2-15 m unsynchronised LVDS data, I2C signals and test pulses to the detector Overview of Data Transmission Part of the system involved in clock distribution D. Ungaro

  4. General layout D. Ungaro

  5. RPC partitions In the RPC system there are totally 4 partitions: • Endcap+ • Endcap- • Barrel+ • Barrel- D. Ungaro

  6. General Description of partitions TTCci One partition Underground Counting Room On CMS Detector Twobranches D. Ungaro

  7. Detailed Description of the first branch In the Counting Room: Trigger Crate TTCex Optical diodes TTCrx Located on Trigger board, Readout board and Sorter board 1)Number of fibers = number of diodes = number of crates; 2) Signals from optical diodes to TTCrx are fanned out via PECL Fan out chip, then transmitted electrically D. Ungaro

  8. RPC Trigger: Crates and Racks D. Ungaro

  9. Detailed Description of the second branch On the Detector: Link Board Box On the detector TTCex 9 optocouplers Optical diodes TTCrx On the Control Board 1)Number of fibers = number of diodes = number of Control Board cards (260); 2) Signals from optical diodes (on the CB) to TTCrx (on the LB) are sent electrically via PECL fan out unit D. Ungaro

  10. Number of TTCrx needed in the RPC system • For the first branch: 239 TTCrx (204 Trigger boards, 12 Readout boards, 3 Readout concentrators boards, 20 Sorter boards) • For the second branch: 1880 TTCrx (Endcap: 384+624+24+48=1080 Barrel: 300+500=800) D. Ungaro
