  10. Clearances • What are they? • Pennsylvania State Police- Renew yearly • Child Abuse History- Renew yearly • Federal Criminal History- Good for duration of program* • P.P.D. Tuberculin Test - Renew yearly • How do I order them? • Links to each clearance site available on: • College of Education Undergraduate Student Community Blackboard site • College of Education web page • *Must renew if not enrolled for 1 or more semesters or leave U.S. for study abroad or travel.

  11. Clearances Criminal Records Check • If concerned about passing required clearances, inform your advisor as soon as possible. • Being in our Teacher Ed program has unique responsibilities. Minimize risks in your personal life that could jeopardize your teaching plans.

  12. Praxis Exams:What are they? Praxis I “PPST” Required before Candidacy • General Knowledge in Math, Reading, Writing. Praxis II Required before Student Teaching • Knowledge of content from teaching methods and subject area coursework.

  13. Praxis Exams:Preparing for the Praxis I Start preparing now! Plan to pass exams before start of Sophomore Year. How to Prepare: • Review content and register at www.ets.org • Use PLATO- online Praxis prep program • Attend PRAXIS workshops • Borrow/Purchase a Praxis Study Guide

  14. What is Candidacy? • Major benchmark at the end of your Sophomore Year. • Verifies specific requirements are met before: • Officially admitted into Teacher Education Program. • Taking higher-level teaching methods courses and student teaching.
