  2. The Purpose of this Information Meeting is: • TO GIVE YOU AN OVERALL UNDERSTANDING OF THE GOALS AND OBJECTIVES OF ROTARY. • TO GIVE YOU AN UNDERSTANDING OF THE BENEFITS OF BECOMING A ROTARIAN. • TO HELP YOU TO UNDERSTAND WHAT IS EXPECTED OF A ROTARIAN. • TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS THAT YOU MIGHT HAVE ABOUT ROTARY INTERNATIONAL OR THE NOVI ROTARY CLUB.

  3. What is Rotary? • Rotary is a worldwide organization of business and professional leaders that provides humanitarian service, encourages high ethical standards in all vocations, and helps build goodwill and peace in the world.

  4. Who are Rotarians? • Rotary club membership represents a cross-section of the community's business and professional men and women. The world's Rotary clubs meet weekly and are nonpolitical, nonreligious, and open to all cultures, races, and creeds.

  5. THE OBJECT OF ROTARY: The object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster: First. The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service; Second. High ethical standards in business and professional conduct; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying by each Rotarian of his occupation as an opportunity to serve society; Third. The application of the ideal of service by every Rotarian to his personal, business, and community life. Fourth, The advancement of international understanding, good will, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional men united in the ideal of service.

  6. Rotary is an test International Organization The Rotary world is divided into territories within which a group of clubs are associated – these territories are known as Rotary Districts. Rotary districts can cross international boundaries - our district 6380 includes Canadian Clubs.

  7. Our Rotary District 6380 is composed of approximately 50 clubs with a total membership of over 2,000 Rotarians. Rotary International Is governed by a president and a board of directors elected from Rotary Clubs across the globe. Annually each District also elects a District Governor – but each club also operates as an autonomous organization within Rotary International. The first Rotary Club was organized in Chicago in 1905, by Paul P. Harris. This club met in rotation at the offices of the members – hence the name Rotary. There are now more than 31,000 Rotary Clubs with a total Rotary membership of more than 1.2 million men and woman.
