  4. What do CL methods/models have in common? An assignment specifically designed - • so all can contribute (PI) • to enable mutually helpful behaviour • to ensure individual accountability • with clear criteria for evaluation

  5. Group Investigation The investigation of a multi-faceted topic that generates many questions

  6. INQUIRY LEARNING PROMOTES: • Synergy in cooperative settings • positive interdependence • Group members learn from each other • High level thinking • Positive views of other people/views • Self-esteem • General social skills

  7. Components of Group Investigation • Investigation • Interaction • Interpretation • Intrinsic motivation

  8. #1 - Investigation • Challenging, multi-faceted, real problem • Class = inquiring community and a community of inquirers • Ss search for answers and construct knowledge

  9. #2 - Interaction • Interaction at each stage of the investigation • Ss inspire, teach, learn from, assist, critique, disagree with each other • Ts help Ss acquire communication skills

  10. #3 - Interpretation • Ss exchange, analyze, evaluate, synthesize their collated information and ideas • Group members negotiate answers to their questions

  11. #4 – Intrinsic Motivation • Ss make individual and joint choices and decisions • Ss have greater control, responsibility over learning • Ss feel more ownership • Interaction promotes motivation
