MEDIATION CLINIC • 3 mandatory training sessions • Students must pass a background check before being allowed to mediate in the Justice Court Mediation Program • Students must submit a one-page statement of intent and meet with Professor Hinshaw prior to being permitted to enroll • High Honors, Honors Pass/Fail Grading Option • 4-5 Hours per week on out-of-class assignments • 6 credit hours • 2 four-hour blocks of time (morning or afternoon) 9TH CIR. 2005 ADR EDUCATION AWARD For more information contact: Prof. Art Hinshaw, Director art.hinshaw@asu.edu 480-965-3109

The Immigration Law & Policy ClinicWhat students do: • Represent detained juveniles in immigration court. • Draft motions, briefs, legal correspondence, closing statements, and direct examination questions. • Provide brief consultations at Friendly house to individuals with immigration law questions. • Research law and country conditions, interview and prepare experts/witnesses, investigate facts and obtain documentation.

The Immigration Law & Policy ClinicTime Commitments: • Students attend a one day training at the start of the semester. • Students meet 2x a week (Mon & Wed) for two hours during the first half of the semester for practical training. • Each student covers the detained juvenile calendar court at least once. (can be on a Mon or Fri morning) • Each student provides consultations at Friendly House on a Friday morning at least once in the semester. • Students spend about 10-12 hrs a week on case related work.

The Immigration Law & Policy ClinicAdmission: • Interested students must submit a letter of intent to Professor Cruz (evelyn.cruz@asu.edu) by the end of open enrollment. • The letter (not to exceed 3 pgs) must include the following information: • Why the student is interested in participating in the clinic • How participation in the clinic will advance the student’s plans for the future • What the student feels he/she can contribute to the clinic • What his/her anticipated learning goals are • Anything else she/he considers pertinent • Logistics: • Enrollment is limited to six students • Second and third years are eligible to apply • The immigration seminar is not required, but students in the clinic are exempt from the limited enrollment provision for that course • Students receive six units of graded credit • Admitted students will be notified by April 23 For more information contact: Prof. Evelyn Cruz, Director evelyn.cruz@asu.edu or 480-965-3109

Requirements • Each participant will be asked to spend 15-20 hours per week on their TVC project(s) = 4 credit hours earned • You will be the project lead • You will be assigned project consultants, as necessary • Update progress weekly to TVC Manager • Classroom session each week = 2 credit hours earned • One hour each week will be spent in a TVC team meeting • Each participant will be asked to hold three ‘office hours’ each week • The student sets their own ‘office hours’ • Must be during regular business hours (8am to 5pm) • Remaining time is flexible • Work at home, on campus, wherever!

12. Represent clients in tribal, state, and federal court and administrative proceedings. 15. Special Withdrawal The last day to withdraw from any clinic, without special permission from the Executive Director of the Clinical Program, is two (2) weeks prior to the first seminar class
