  • The concept combines the technical advantages of 3 different types of existing units:
    • The vessel shaped hull allows fast transit and/or high storage capacity.
    • The semi-submersible for a superb operational heave behaviour.

MULTI-PURPOSE EXPLORATION VESSEL

OPTIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR DEEPWATER

  • Own propulsion: In transit it would be able to sail with speed up to 15 knots and in operational mode full stationkeeping capabilities.
  • In operational mode the motion behaviour would be equal or better as in a semi-submersible; a system which allows to work with a fixed Riser system able to operate in heavy weather reducing dramaticaly the occurrence of operational downtime.
  • High storage area’s to reduce logistical cost and preferably have a relative low Vertical Center of Gravity to maintain stability requirements.
  • Vessel must be outfitted with sufficient equipment to handle all standard operations.

CONCEPT DESIGN PREMISES (1)

  • Additional doublehull mid-column acting as moonpool below the derrick; in the mid-column’s doublehull the casings, drillpipe and risers will be transported vertically by conveyor systems into the derrick.
  • Vertical storage in hull of up to 4000 meter (13000 ft.) risers, drillpipe and casing; stored by cranes through the columns at the bow’s.
  • DP class 3 classification; large added mass – negligible heave; low overall Vertical Center of Gravity – adjustable by ballast tanks to optimise stability and GM.
  • Adjustable buoyant module in moonpool to reduce and control loads on the toptension system.
  • Ballast tanks: seawater can be replaced by crude oil.
  • Deck cranes: sufficient capacity to handle all operations like installation of templates, loading and unloading risers etc...

The sum of fluctuating load Ft results in the need for atoptension system which is able to react fast on load changes.Taking into account the always action static load a hugepowerconsuming toptension system is required.
