  1. CHRISTIAN GOAL SETTING

  2. (15) Christian Goal setting • Different names for Goal setting: • Call of God • Will of God • Mission • Bottom line • Vision

  3. (14) Christian Goal setting • 2 Cor. 5. 9-10 We make it our goal to please Him…. • We must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due him for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad • What are some biblical examples of men and women of God with goals?

  4. (13) Christian goal setting • Apostle Paul (Phil 3.14) I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus (Goal in Greek, “Skopos” which means finishing mark) • Abraham (Heb 11.10) For he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God • Nehemiah – Goal to rebuild the wall of Jerusalem (Execution in 52 days)

  5. (12) Christian goal setting • King David (Psa 27.4) one thing I ask of the Lord, this is what I seek; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple • Mary (Luke 10.42) Mary has chosen what is better and it will not be taken away from her (the good thing is the enemy of the better!)

  6. (11) Christian goal setting • Throughout the history, God does nothing on the earth without His people participating with Him to fulfill His purpose through them on this earth. • The question every Christian should ask himself is that, (1) who am I becoming? (2) Am I fulfilling God’s call and purpose in my life?

  7. (10) Christian goal setting • Luke 14. 28-30 Suppose one of you wants to build a tower, will he not first sit down and estimate the cost to see if he has enough money to complete? “For if he lay the foundation and is not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule him, saying, the fellow began to build and was not able to finish • It is how we finish that matters!

  8. (9) Christian goal setting • Prov 22.29 Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will serve before kings; He will not serve before obscure men. • Col 1. 9-11 …asking God to fill you with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding… to live a life worthy of the Lord, pleasing Him in every way……

  9. (8) Christian goal setting Col 3.23-24 What ever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Jesus Christ you are serving.

  10. (7) Christian goal setting • Exercise (Work shop) • Retirement party speech • On death bed – final words to loved ones • Obituary – written on the tomb stone • When you arrive in heaven, what will you like to hear from the Lord?

  11. (6) Christian goal setting • Worry more about your character than your reputation. Character is what you are. Reputation is merely what others think you are…John Wooden • Christian life is a life of becoming more and more like the Lord Jesus Christ. It is allowing the life of Lord Jesus to manifest through you • This is a journey in brokenness

  12. (5) Christian goal setting • Phil 3.12, 13 Not that I have already attained or am already perfected, But I press on that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended, but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead

  13. (4) Christian goal setting • Financial goal (1 Tim 5.8) If any one does not provide for his relatives and especially for his immediate family, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever • Projects (a) write a book (b) article © teaching CD/VCD/DVD • Physical health goals regarding exercise (1 Tim 4.8) For physical training is some value but godliness has value for all things holding promise for both the present life and the life to come • Look in to my diet and nutrition

  14. (3) Christian goal setting • What you want to achieve is the goal • How you achieve it is the activity • Be firm about your goals and flexible about your activities • Start doing something every day towards your goal • Setting goal is not a one time exercise; it is ongoing

  15. (2) Christian goal setting • Spirit led and specific • Measurable • Attainable • Realistic • Time targeted. • We can give only what we have (Acts 3.6) Peter said, silver and gold I do not have, but what I have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk

  16. (1) Christian goal setting • The ministry of the leader where there is no vision, the people perish – are lost. Where the vision is blurred the people are frustrated • The areas of output (a) personal (b) cell based © Corporate (d) missions • Serving God, knowing my calling and gifting.

  17. (0) Christian goal setting • Conclusion (2 Tim 4.7) I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith • (2 Pet 1. 10,11) Therefore my brothers, be all the more eager to make your calling and election sure. For if you do these things, you will never fall and you will receive a rich welcome in to the eternal kingdom our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
