Dr. Benoy Berry, Chairman of United Kingdom-based technology and systems operations corporation Contec Global Group, is committed to the future education of students in scientific and technical fields studying in Nigerian institutions of higher learning. Dr. Berry, who holds a doctorate from World Open University in communication arts, announced in 2011 his company’s support for a new award in key science areas created by a professional organization of Nigerian journalists to recognize and reward exceptional students. Dr. Benoy Berry spoke at an international communications conference in Abuja about the award, saying that Nigeria needs to focus on the kind of social and economic development that can be achieved through scientific progress. The award will be known as the Nigerian Association of Science Journalists Award for Science Students and will recognize students in the northern and southern regions of the country. Dr. Benoy Berry founded Contec Global in 1984 with the goal of creating a high-level technological security services firm to assist governments and others in authenticating the identity of people, items, and documents. In addition to handling some 40 percent of the passports issued to individuals in Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Gambia, Rwanda, Benin, and other African nations, Contec Global and Dr. Berry are interested in infrastructure, the development of alternative energy sources, and other technological innovations on four continents, particularly in Africa. Dr. Benoy Berry recently began to focus on expansion into European and Middle Eastern markets. Dr. Benoy Berry holds an undergraduate degree, with a concentration in economics, from the University of Delhi in India. He received his Master’s degree in Finance from the Delhi School of Economics.
