Hackney – setting the scene • 2012 Olympic borough- 257k pop • 4th highest pop growth in UK – extra 70,000 by 2041 Obvious implications for Transport but; • High levels of walking, cycling and public transport (85% commuting) • Continued need to prioritise walking and cycling and; • Use of new technology to support growth & regeneration

Cycling - Increase from 7% to 15% (all journeys) - Increase from 15% to 25% Commuter Walking - Maintain at least 40% mode share Others: Increase tree canopy cover from 18% to 25% Car club within 3 min walk 100% accessible bus stops 20 mph borough speed limit Reduce NOx, PM10s ITS a key tool in helping us to identify areas where to prioritise resources Hackney Transport Strategy 2014-2024

  7. Cycle Counter Number of cyclists yesterday: 4,954 Total cyclists since 6 August 2013: 2,118,782 Gateway Feature into the borough 1st use of digital counter in UK Raises profile of the route as a key cycling corridor Daily updates on Council website - Over 2 Million trips since Aug 2013

Instant and easy feedback from a commonly available medium Open source data – code from Atlanta Focus on utility journeys Records our cyclists journeys - Heatmaps - routes our cyclists going/avoiding Allows cyclists to report issues, request improvements Measures total distances, calories burnt, CO2 saved Not a journey planner Why Cycle Hackney?
