  1. VETS September 2019 The Issue 9 Cultural Volume 11 issue VA Housing Grants

  2. Veteran Care /2 VA HOUSING GRANTS While the percentage of homeless veterans continues to decline due to companies and organizations like Veteran Care, one is still too many. If you don’t think so, then consider the fact that 49,933 veterans are currently homeless (there were 60,000 homeless Veterans in 2012), and those are just the ones who can be located via community agencies. It’s not entirely the fault of our government as to why our veterans are homeless, but it is the responsibility of our nation to help restore those who fought to provide us with the freedoms of living at home, with a home of their own. Many veterans chose to remain secluded due to posttraumatic symptoms suffered in battle. Some not only need help from the countless dead bodies and devastation they’ve witnessed, but they also need assistance with society reintroduction. With the help of our President, over $600 million dollars have been made available to provide veterans with homelessness prevention and assistance. Programs around the United States are set up to help veterans become reintroduced into society through supportive housing and affordable housing. Supportive housing bridges our veterans from homelessness into transitional housing until they reach the goal of independent housing. Studies show that 95% of veterans experience long term success and re-acclimation in independent housing after one year in permanent supportive housing.
