HFRP – Our History

Our history is full of change, innovation and growth. While our name has changed from Morning Pride to Total Fire Group to Honeywell First Responder Products, our commitment to excellence has stayed the same.

Morning Pride’s first sewing room on Home Avenue in Dayton, Ohio

Dayton, Ohio, 1921, Morning Pride Manufacturing was born in the basement of a dry goods store owned by Lawrence and Estelle Grilliot. Mrs. Grilliot took over the space to sew morning dresses, garments women wore over their regular dresses when they cleaned the house. In 1924, at the request of a local fire equipment distributor, the company expanded its clothing line to include canvas duck coats for firefighters.

Larry Grilliot in “Fire-Alls.”

In 1929, the company built its first stitching facility, a state-of-the-art manufacturing center in South Dayton. Unfortunately, the Great Depression set in, threatening the Grilliot’s new venture. They survived, however, by adapting to the times and accepting any stitching work they could find. From tarps to aprons to hospital gowns, the Grilliots kept the plant running as they built their fire gear business.

We are the leaders in innovation

  • With more than 250 patents, we lead the industry in innovation and ingenuity. In fact, we have more patents than all the other companies in our industry combined.

We are the leaders in product development

  • HFRP has a vibrant New Product Introduction (NPI) process that reduces the time it takes to bring exciting innovations to the market. Our NPI process starts with feedback, Voice of the Customer (VOC), from first responders and distributors. We take our customer’s ideas and turn them into products that help them save lives.

We define the cutting edge

  • We set the trends that others try to follow. Gear designed with ergonomics in mind; light-weight hybrid boots; three-dimensional gloves; hoods shaped with comfort in mind; helmets made from revolutionary materials so strong they don’t require impact caps. We take cutting edge ideas and turn them into reality.

Honeywell First Responder Products is focused on what we can do today and what is possible to do tomorrow to improve first responder survivability.

Morning Pride Structural Helmet Advantages

Advantage # 1: Strongest Shell on the Market

  • What Makes FYR-Glass So Strong?
    • FYR-Glass sheet molded compound combines resins, additive and fiberglass strands to create a helmet 6.5 time stronger than typical fiberglass helmets
    • Only Morning Pride has FYR-Glass technology
    • During shell production, molds must be evenly pre-heated to well in excess of 275 degrees F
    • Shells produced on 100-ton presses at over 1,000 psi provide the most durable, molded true-color-throughout shells
