  1. How Do We Protect Our Privacy In This Age Of Surveillance? By Benedict T. Palen, Jr. Consciously or unconsciously, we are moving down a path where we are losing our privacy.  Whether it is some “personal assistant” that records what you need, or what you do, or “cookies” on a website that track our every move, we are losing track of how the “advancements” of technology are changing our fundamental right to privacy.

  2. How Do We Protect Our Privacy In This Age Of Surveillance? By Benedict T. Palen, Jr. Look around next time you are walking down a street in most urban areas. How many surveillance cameras do you see?   How many were in those same locations, say, five or ten years ago?   Do you just take those spying devices for granted, and think “well, that is the price for living in the age of technology?”  Or, have you thought about how things are out of balance between human rights to privacy, and the obsession that some people seem to have with spying on others?  If, say, you are a farmer, have you thought about how much private data is being collected on your farm, all in the name of “improved management,” and how others have access to that data.   If you drive a car—as most of us do—have you thought about how much data the “black box” is collecting on our driving habits?

  3. How Do We Protect Our Privacy In This Age Of Surveillance? By Benedict T. Palen, Jr. It is time that we take a step back, and have a deep discussion about this path that we are on, and the consequences of it over the long term as our world gets more enmeshed in the “wonders” of technology.   Arguably, technology has brought the world closer together, but we may be forgetting the flip side of that.    There must be some policy guidelines that are put into place at the national and state levels to protect our rights to privacy, and to find the balance between “snooping” and legitimate use of devices that track us.   Hard questions must be asked before we get too far down this path.
