  2. Vaquita’s & there Habitat • The Vaquita only live in the Sea of Cortez, in a small area such as 40 square miles. The Sea of Cortez is located in the Northern reaches of the Gulf of California. • Diet & Feeding • Examiners examine dead Vaquitas stomachs to find out what they had eaten. They found out that they eat about 17 different species. Most common for a Vaquita to eat would be squid and crabs. • What hunts them • Vaquita’s are eaten by killer whales, great white sharks, and bottlenose dolphins. • Why did I chose the Vaquita? • I chose to do the Vaquita because its appearance caught my attention. There gray with a dark coloration around the eyes and mouth. • Vaquitas Threats • The biggest threat to Vaquitas are gillnets, mainly fishing gear.

  3. How Will Not Having This Organism Affect The Environment? • Not having the Vaquita means they were lead to extinction by humans. More in dept by fishing gear. Nothing will really happen to are environment but by saving this organism means we didn’t let humans kill Vaquitas.

  4. How Does Having This Organism Affect The Environment? • Saving this organism means a reduction in fishing. Nets are what's killing Vaquitas. Getting rid of all the nets will benefit Vaquitas but will cost the fishermen. Fishermen need the nets to catch food to support their families.

  5. What needs to be done to increase the numbers of this organism in the environment? • ALL nets must come out of the water near Vaquita territory, in order for the number of Vaquitas to increase. Being dead sucks

  6. What Is Being Done To Protect This Organism? • The Government of Mexico is trying to get ride of all the nets In the Vaquita range. Other options they have is enforcement removal or compensate fishermen with other options.

  7. How did this organism become endangered? • Threats • The major threat Vaquitas have are gillnets and other fishing gear.
