  1. Social Studies—Class StandardsPatton High SchoolTeacher: Mr. Steuwer

  2. Course Description: • This class requires you to complete a combination of textbook and in class assignments that include lectures, projects, currents events, films, and book report (for World and U.S. History) combined to total 75 points. • Points are calculated on the basis of 1 hour of work equals 1 point, thus, 75 points is 75 hours of work (a semester).

  3. Course Description: Since much of the work is contract driven (students working individually on their separate assignments), students’ drive and pace will determine how long each course will actually take—but each student must complete 75 points. To receive credit for an assignment, all questions must be answered completely and demonstrate student competence. Any incomplete work turned in will not be accepted.

  4. Student Conduct: • Be punctual and prepared for class. Enter classroom only when you are prepared to work. • You will need a PRC (Permit to Return to Class) slip from the office after an absence. Do this before coming to class. You will be tardy if I have to send you back out to the office or another class to fetch your PRC.

  5. Student Conduct: • Number of TardiesAction Taken • 3 Warning and U in work habits on report card • 4 letter to Parents • 5-7 One hour detention for each tardy • 8+ Referral to Mr. Hanson and U’s in work habits and cooperation on report card

  6. Student Conduct: • Raise your hand if you wish permission to speak. Refrain from loud outbursts and speaking out-of-turn. • When the teacher is lecturing or conducting current events, stay in your seat, using active listening skills by taking notes, and asking questions that relate to the lecture. • When the teacher is lecturing, it is not time to ask questions that pertain to a different lesson or class. • Help keep the room clean and attractive by keeping your desk and surrounding area free from trash and graffiti.

  7. Student Conduct: • You must receive permission from the teacher to use a computer. When finished using a computer, you are responsible for turning it off and replacing covers. • Do NOT bring any food (including gum or candy) into my room. Water is ok. • Grooming (combing hair, applying make-up, etc.) is not appropriate classroom behavior. • Do not sleep in my class—keep your head up while studying, watching films, or when I or guest speakers are lecturing.

  8. Student Conduct: • HOMEWORK SHOULD BE TAKEN HOME EACH DAY! Mr. Steuwer has copies of each assignment to check out and return the next day. What you don’t finish in class, take home and finish that afternoon as homework, and turn in promptly at the beginning of class the next day. • “Class set” books are checked out to students for use in the classroom, and each student will have their own numbered book to use. These are never to be taken outside this classroom. Using a book that isn’t yours results in 15 lost points. • Bring your BINDER, PAPER, and PEN to class EVERY DAY. All assignments must be written in blue or black ink (except map assignments). No credit will be given for work written in pencil. Assignments must be neat and easily readable.
