  1. FOUR THINGS GOD HAS DONE COLOSSIANS 1:13-14

  2. THE POINT • FALSE RELIGIONS WILL ALWAYS GIVE JESUS A PLACE OF PROMINENCE. THE ISSUE IS THAT JESUS CHRIST IS PREEMINENT.

  3. THE POINT • PAUL LAYS OUT THE REASON JESUS MUST BE GIVEN THAT PLACE ALONE, AND WORSHIPPED.

  4. THE POINT • THE FIRST REASON IS THAT HE IS THE ONLY SAVIOR FROM SIN

  5. THE FIRST THING GOD HAS DONE • HE DELIVERED US FROM THE DOMINION OF DARKNESS. • DELIVERED MEANS “TO DRAW ONE’S SELF; TO RESCUE, TO DELIEVER.”

  6. THE FIRST THING • Moses was “drawn out” of the Nile, which is what his name means. He was the great deliverer of Israel from Egypt. • Moses said that One would come who would be greater than he, Jesus the Great Deliverer.

  7. THE SECOND THING GOD HAS DONE • BROUGHT US TO THE KINGDOM OF THE SON OF HIS LOVE • TRANSFERRED, REMOVE FROM ONE PLACE TO ANOTHER. IT APPLIES TO A WHOLE GROUP OF PEOPLE.

  8. THE SECOND THING… • WE ARE NOT TRANSFERRED TO WANDER AIMLESSLY, BUT INTO A NEW KINGDOM, A NEW DOMAIN WHERE THERE IS LIGHT AND LOVE. • THE GNOSTICS CLAIMED LIGHT, BUT IT IS IN CHRIST THAT THERE IS THE WHOLE KINGDOM OF LIGHT

  9. THE SECOND THING… • THE WORD BROUGHT OR TRANSFERRED USUALLY REFERS TO A VICTORIOUS KING WHO MOVES THE DEFEATED TO ANOTHER PLACE. • IN THIS CASE, WE ARE PLACED INTO THE KINGDOM OF VICTORY.

  10. THE FIRST THING GOD HAS DONE • DELIVERED FROM THE KINGDOM OF DARKNESS. • KINGDOM, DOMAIN OR DOMINION MEANS AUTHORITY, POWER. IT IS TYRANNY, LAWLESS, UNRESTRAINED OR ARBITRARY POWER. • JESUS, WHEN BEFORE HIS ACCUSERS SAID, “BUT THIS IS YOUR HOUR, WHEN DARKNESS REIGNS.” Luke 22:53. THE KJV READS, “AND THE POWER OF DARKNESS.”

  11. THE KINGDOM OF LIGHT • PSALM 2:7-8 • HEBREWS 1:3-9

  12. THE THIRD THING GOD HAS DONE • IN WHOM WE HAVE REDEMPTION • A RELEASING EFFECTED BY PAYMENT OF RANSOM, LIBERATION PROCURED BY PAYMENT. • IN THE IMAGERY OF AN ENSLAVED PEOPLE, IT IS SOMETHING GIVEN TO RELEASE THEM FROM TYRANNY.

  13. THE THIRD THING… • THE PAYMENT WAS NOT MADE TO SATAN. SATAN IS LIKE THE PRISON WARDEN, AND THE LAW IS THE PROSECUTOR. THE SATISFACTION WAS GIVEN TO THE JUDGE THAT THE PAYMENT WAS SUFFICIENT TO LET THE PRISONERS FREE.

  14. THE THIRD THING… • On the Cross of Christ the price was paid in full for your freedom so you can be freed from the bondage to sin. There is a Biblical term for this freedom that the Lord purchased for those who have Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.

  15. THE THIRD THING… • The term is "redemption." "Redemption" (apolutrosis) here means to let go free for a ransom. There are many forms of this word for "redemption" in the New Testament. "Lutroo," is "The recalling of captives to set them free, referring to sinners set free from captivity, the bondage of sin, by the payment of a ransom for them through Christ's death."

  16. THE THIRD THING… • It is important to note that in a least four passages of Scripture sin is presented as slavery. (John 8:34; Romans 6:17,20; 2 Peter 2:19) Another form of the Greek word for "redemption" (lutron) means "Deliverance on account of the ransom paid" as spoken of the deliverance from the power and the eternal consequences of sin which Christ purchased by laying down His life as a ransom for those who believe.

  17. THE THIRD THING… • Redeemed (lutroo) by the highest cost possible, through the shed blood of Christ. Redeemed, (agorazo) literally set free from the slave market of sin, death, and hell. Redeemed, (exagorazo) literally delivered out of the enslavement to sin.

  18. THE THIRD THING… • In the first century, whenever the Greek Word (lutron) for "redemption" was used, people would naturally know that it was referring to the price being paid to free slaves.

  19. THE FOURTH THING… • THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS • FORGIVENESS IS “TO SEND AWAY, TO BID GO AWAY, TO DEPART. TO CANCEL A DEBT.” • LIKE THE SCAPEGOAT OF THE O.T., OUR SINS WERE PUT UPON JESUS CHRIST AND TAKEN AWAY FROM US, WITH THE DEBT CANCELLED.
