  1. LOVE ONE ANOTHER John 13: 31 - 38

  2. One Another's Series • Be devoted to one another • Live in harmony with one another • Accept one another • Serve one another • Bear with & forgive one another • Be kind & compassionate to one another • Encourage & spur one another on.

  3. John 13: 31 - 38 • 31When he was gone, Jesus said, “Now is the Son of Man glorified and God is glorified in him. 32If God is glorified in him, God will glorify the Son in himself, and will glorify him at once. • 33“My children, I will be with you only a little longer. You will look for me, and just as I told the Jews, so I tell you now: Where I am going, you cannot come

  4. John 13: 31 - 38 • 34“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

  5. Three linked commands • Love one another. • As I…so you. • By this…all will know. IF you…love one another.

  6. Love one another

  7. As I have loved you. • How did Christ love us? • Look to the Cross • Sacrifice • 1 John 3: 16: “This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers”.

  8. As I have loved you. • Our own lives should not be more precious to us than God’s own Son was to him! • ‘Tell me how much you know of the sufferings of your fellow men, and I will tell you how much you have loved them’. • “The command to love has its first application within the body of Christ. When a non-Christian steps inside a church, that should be his or her first observation”. • Burge

  9. By this all men will know that you are my disciples. • “Nothing so astonishes a fractured world as a community in which radical, faithful, genuine love is shared among its members”. • It is the mandate of the church to become a community of love, a circle of Christ’s followers who invest in one another because Christ died for them – that is the ultimate sacrifice!

  10. Conclusion. • At every level in our society, there is brokenness, hurt, pain and disappointment. • What could you do, what small thing could you do this week to love someone? • And where might this lead?
