  1. Rise Of Skywalker (Sci-Fi)

  2. Who is the target audience& how is the genre shown? Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker is aimed at teenagers to young adult white females and males, as the main character is a young, white female but is also appealing to males. The genre is shown in the opening sequence as you can instantly see a lightsaber, which is a sci-fi prop and also the famous star wars music is playing in the background, which audiences would note and know it’s a sci-fi film. One character is introduced, and we know he is a trained killer due to the tracking shot of him killing lots of enemies.

  3. Sound, Mise-En-Scene, Editing & Camera Work The opening sequence begins with the classic star wars logo and a brief summary of the previous movies before transitioning to a close up of a fight between a group of creatures and one person with a red lightsaber and a tracking shot of him flighting different creatures. The use of a red lightsaber could connote danger and dressing him in black could create mystery around him, which together give the impression that he is dangerous and powerful. There is also the classic Star Wars theme playing in the background as non-diegetic sound, which highlights the genre being sci-fi and makes him seem powerful and to be feared. There is matched action of a scene where a lightsaber is stabbed through a character’s abdomen and being pulled through his side, which gives the audience perspective on the death and further shows Ben Solo’s dominance.
