  2. Production • Event coordinators must look at an event as a production, similar to a theatrical, film or television production. • What will the audience see and hear during the event?

  3. Production • Production must be considered through all phases of planning. • Load-in: bringing production equipment and other event needs into the venue/site • Load-out: removing production equipment and event needs from the venue/site

  4. Prevent/Handle Technical Difficulties • Contract with a good audio visual team • Secure backup equipment for important production aspects • Provide sufficient time to prepare, install and test equipment • Be prepared to move your event forward without technology

  5. Lighting Terms to Know • Lighting is natural, functional and decorative • Dimmer- device used to fade beam in and out during production

  6. Lighting Terms to Know • Follow Spot- focusable spotlight mounted on the stand which follows the movement of a performer, moving object or audience member

  7. Lighting Terms to Know • Gel- thin color filter placed in a lighting instrument to change the color of the beam

  8. Lighting Terms to Know • Gobo (goes before optical)- cut or etched metal or glass stencil placed between the lamp and lens in a spotlight

  9. Lighting Terms to Know • LED Lights- energy-efficient and low-temperature lights; millions of colors, high definition images and high intensity illumination

  10. Lighting Terms to Know • Lighting Balloons- helium filled fabric balloon with a lamp inside

  11. Lighting Terms to Know • PARcan (parabolic aluminized reflector)- high intensity, low wattage lamp mounted in a round frame resembling a can often used for uplighting and downlighting

  12. Lighting Terms to Know • Truss and rigging- used to mount lighting, sound and other production equipment to the ceiling of a site

Visual Projection • Must consider what is projecting the image and the surface on which it is projected • Rear projection • Front projection • Flown projection • I-Mag (live video image magnification)- used to project the current action to allow the audience to see the face of the presenter or the action occurring on stage
