  2. The Old Days of Camping!!!

  3. Rationale • This trip (three days, two nights) forms the finale of our Year 10 International Award Bronze Certificate. • It also provides a valuable opportunity for students to develop confidence in outdoor adventure and education. • The expectation is that every student in Year 10 will attend this trip. • It will be a fantastic opportunity for the students to work together. • We hope all parents can see the value of residential trips and how they provide students with valuable life skills

  4. Caldera

  5. Caldera • Caldera is a beautiful site about 3 ½ hours from BIS. • The site is regularly used for team building and has been used by BIS for a number of years. • The site is safe and is well away from major roads. • It has good communication links, our mobile phones work in the area, we tested these on the pre-visits and were able to pick up several networks. • Control measures include e.g. regular head counts / lightning detector use / walk-through of emergency evacuation / checklist for accommodation, etc. • Weather conditions will be carefully monitored and if rain persists students will sleep in the huts and eat under the covered area.

  6. Health and Safety • Pre-visits of the site have taken place. All the activities and the sites have had a risk assessment. • The campsite and all relevant facilities within it have been given a risk assessment. • The treks have been given a risk assessment. • Registers will be taken regularly throughout the day.

  7. Staffing Members of staff & 2 paramedics accompanying the trip: • Leighton Edwards • Tom Metters • Ian Paterson • Shona Davidson • Claire Hullock • Ryan Campbell • Ria Millington • Tom Gleeson • Ken McClure • David Jolly • Boris Lautrette • Agus Suyitno • Viki Davies • Rachael Hodgson

  8. Transport • The Blue Bird company is being used to transport all staff and students. • All buses will have two staff members on them to supervise students. • All buses have seat belts for all passengers.

  9. Accommodation • Monday night - Girls will camp in shared tents • Tuesday night – Girls will be in chalets. • Wednesday night boys will camp in shared tents • Thursday night – boys will be in chalets. • Students who have not completed the IA Practice Walk will be expected to camp for an additional night. • Accompanying staff will be camping with students or staying in chalets nearby. • We have checked all the chalets on a pre-visit to make sure they are secure with regard to fire exits, security, etc. • The site has 24-hour security – there will be 2 security guards patrolling at night.

  10. Campsite • The students will be advised of where to meet in the case of any emergency. • SOS Paramedics stay with us all night; along with ISOS they will advise in the case of sudden illness. • The campsite has very good showers, toilet facilities and safe camping area. • The toilets will be lit at night.
