  5. El imperfecto The imperfect is used to indicate the continuance of a past action or event, or to describe a situation in past time. Neither the beginning nor the end of the event or situation is indicated. In particular, we use the imperfect: • To express what was happening (was/were + “ing”), used to happen, or happened repeatedly in the past. • To describe ongoing characteristics of persons or things in the past • To describe a state of mind in the past, we verbs such as creer, querer, pensar, and saber • To express the time of day in the past • To express the weather in the past • To express a person’s age when an event took place
