  3. Job-keeping Skills • Use correct grammar • Report to work on time and when scheduled • Be prepared to work when you arrive at work • Practice teamwork • Promote a positive attitude • Accept responsibility • Be willing to learn new things

  4. Letter of Application (Cover Letter) • Usually contains three to four paragraphs. • State your purpose for writing and express interest in the position. • State why you feel you are qualified for the position. • State that you are including a resume`. • Close letter with a request for an interview.

  5. Resume` • Should contain the following: • Personal identification • Employment Objective • Educational background • Work experience • Skills • Other activities • References

  6. More on Resume`s • Honesty is always the best policy. Never give false information. • Always get an individual’s permission before using that person as a reference. References should be professional in your field, teachers, clergy, or others in responsible positions.

  7. Completing Job Applications • Read entire form before attempting to write on it. • Follow instructions for completing (print, type, etc) • Do not leave any areas blank (use “n/a” if something does not apply to you). • Use black ink and make sure handwriting is legible

  8. Completing Job Applications • Do not write is spaces that say, “Office use only”. • Check for spelling & grammar errors. • Make sure all references have correct addresses & telephone numbers.

The Interview: How to Dress For Success • Conservative Business Attire • Nothing tight or short • Clothing must be clean, without holes or stains and pressed (no wrinkles!) • Subtle make up, go light on any fragrances • Carry a brief case or professional bag • Remove any piercing or cover • Be sure tattoos are covered • Closed Toe Shoes • Girls – panty hose a must
