SITA Update • Mavuso Msimang left his post of CEO to assume role of Director General for the DHA in May 2007. • Jonas Bogoshi & Sol Ngubane left a few weeks later to join the private sector in June 2007. • Peter Pedlar appointed to the post of Acting CEO since May 2007. • Efforts to find a permanent CEO are underway. • Operationally: the organisation is doing well. • Annual Report should be published in the next few weeks.

What is Cybercrime? • Simply, crime committed in ‘cyberspace’, i.e. through computers via the Internet • Viruses/worms that implant code for denial of service attacks • Spam that carries trojans and spyware, or solicits victims for phishing • Hackers – used to be very tech savvy, worked alone, and often insiders/targeted companies known to them • Now, fraudsters are adopting hacker tools to become more sophisticated and to cover their tracks (using easily available tools and scripts – which are more sophisticated and user friendly) • Organization – more organization/coordination amongst groups • Wherever there is a financial motivation, organized crime often has its fingers in the cookie jar • Child pornography • Unregulated gambling
