  3. Paul’s Epistle to the Romans Romans 5:20 20 Moreover the law entered that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more,

  4. Why should the believer not sin? (Romans 6:1) I am DEAD to sin (Romans 6:2)

  5. 2. When did I die to sin? (Galatians 2:20)

  6. Galatians 2:20 20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.

Colossians 2:20 20Therefore, if you died with Christ from the basic principles of the world, why, as though living in the world, do you subject yourselves to regulations— Colossians 3:1–3 1 If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. 2 Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. 3For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.

  8. 2. When did I die to sin? (Galatians 2:20) I died to sin in the person of CHRIST. When He died to sin I also died to sin. (Galatians 2:20)

  9. 3. How did I die to sin? I was placed into His death, burial and resurrection by God at the point of my SALVATION. (Romans 6:3-4a)

  10. 1 Corinthians 12:12–13 12 For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ. 13For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body— whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free—and have all been made to drink into one Spirit.

  11. 4. What was the purpose of my identification with Christ? (Romans 6:4b) I was co-crucified and co-resurrected so that I could walk in a NEW WAY. (Romans 6:4b)

  12. 5. How can I be sure this is true? (Romans 6:5) Your co-crucifixion and co-resurrection NOW, is as true as your coming bodily resurrection in the FUTURE. (Romans 6:5)

  13. 6. Could you summarize what you have said and its significance? (Romans 6:6a) Yes! Your OLD MANor all that you were as a person in Adam was crucified with Christ and as far as God is concerned that person is no more. (Romans 6:6a)

  17. 7. Why would God do away with who you were in Adam? (Roman 6:6b) So that the sin nature loses its past POWER or AUTHORITY over your human body. (Rom. 6:6b)

  18. 8. So don’t I have to go on sinning as I always did in the past? Isn’t sinning something that I just have to live with? (Romans 6:6c) NO, you do NOT have to be a slave to your sin nature any longer! (Romans 6:6c)

  19. 9. Could you say it even more simply? (Romans 6:7) Yes! The dead person is freed from SIN. You are free from having to submit to the SIN NATUREbecause you have died with Christ. (Romans 6:7)

  20. 10. You mean I am dead with Christ, but what about my future—will I one day live with Him? (Romans 6:8) If you did indeed died with Him (and you did) you can be sure that you will one day LIVE with him. (Romans 6:8)

  21. 11. If Christ’s death for me was so important, what significance does His resurrection have? (Rom 6:9) It also is important since Christ has been raised from the dead, death has no power over Him. He has conquered death ONCE FOR ALL. Therefore death will not be the end of ME either. (Romans 6:9)

  22. 12. Can you give me any practical ramifications of the death and resurrection of Christ for my life today? (Romans 6:10a) Yes, Jesus not only died FOR your SINS but he also died TO SINonce for all for all of us. (Romans 6:10a)

  24. * WHAT DOES "DIED TO SIN" MEAN? It does not mean that… sin is dead in me (that would be eradication). It does not mean that… we should die to sin (this is a fact; not a command). It does not mean that… we are dying to sin (this is an aorist verb, not a present tense). It does mean that every believer has been CRUCIFIED WITH CHRIST IN GOD’S EYES , so that we have been SEPARATED/FREED from the sin nature’s right to rule in our lives.

  25. 13. Do I have to constantly struggle with my sin nature by myself? (Romans 6:10b You do NOThave to deal with sin yourself. Christ already dealt with it by taking you into His death and then raising you back to life with Himself. (Romans 6:10a)

  26. 14. What about Christ’s life now? (Romans 6:10c) He is ALIVE unto God as death no longer dominates Him. Just like Jesus Christ, you are now FREE to LIVE for God without the tyranny of sin due to your identification with Christ. (Romans 6:10c)

  27. 15. These are wonderful truths but how can I make it practical in my daily life? (Romans 6:11) You have to logically REMEMBER and RECOGNIZE these truths of your identification with Christ and His victory – by FAITH. You don’t make these truths a reality by counting on them (for they are true if you know them or not), but you only practically benefit from them when you daily count on them to be true. (Romans 6:11)

  28. 16. What if I don’t think this is really that important? (Romans 6:11) This is the FIRST command Paul gave to the Church of Rome. It is a KEY command in relation to our daily WALK with the Lord. (Romans 6:11)

  29. B. The Personal APPLICATIONS. (vs. 11-14) 1. You need to continually RECKON yourself to be DEAD to SIN and ALIVE TO GOD through Jesus Christ our Lord. (6:11) Present Tense Imperative Mood Active Voice

  30. B. The Personal APPLICATIONS. (vs. 11-14) 2. DO NOT LETthe sin nature REIGN in your body that you should OBEY it in its LUSTS, and DO NOT PRESENTthe members of your body to the sin nature to be used as INSTRUMENTSof unrighteousness (6:12-13)

  31. B. The Personal APPLICATIONS. (vs. 11-14) 3. PRESENT yourself to GOD as being ALIVEfrom the dead, and PRESENT your MEMBERS as instruments of righteousness to GOD, because you are NOTunder Law, but under GRACE. (6:13-14)

  33. B. The Personal APPLICATIONS. (vs. 11-14) 3. PRESENT yourself to GOD as being ALIVEfrom the dead, and PRESENT your MEMBERS as instruments of righteousness to GOD, because you are NOTunder Law, but under GRACE. (6:13-14)

  35. 2 Peter 1:12–14 (NRSV) 12 Therefore I intend to keep on reminding you of these things, though you know them already and are established in the truth that has come to you. 13 I think it right, as long as I am in this body, to refresh your memory, 14 since I know that my death will come soon, as indeed our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me.
