  3. In Feb 2013 IBM Investor Briefing, Steve Mills committed the following long term growth strategy to our investors: OpenStack? What is it?

  4. To recap, what is OpenStack It is essentially set of middleware S/W for Apps to run on Cloud Why it matters? It is free, standard and enables hybrid cloud story

  5. Today’s IBM Cloud Story in the eyes of ISVs Vmware images Flex FSM API PureFlex System or Client integrated Hardware PureApplicationSystem Automate Optimized Workloads Private cloud PureAS Patterns PureAS Patterns SCAS Patterns Public cloud SmartCloud Enterprise+ Managed Service SmartCloud Enterprise Self-service Cloud KVM based images IBM SCE API

  6. IBM Offerings Refresh plan in 2013 based on OpenStack PureFlex System or Client integrated Hardware PureApplicationSystem Automate Optimized Workloads Plan to refresh in 2014 SmartCloud Orchestrator Accelerate Service Delivery SmartCloud Entry Automate IT Delivery HyperV (Win) support 06/13 KVM (linux) Power 4Q/13 OpenStack APIs OpenStack plus Enterprise Extensions SmartCloud Enterprise+ Managed Service SmartCloud Enterprise Self-service Cloud SCE 3.0 GA in Oct 2013 SCE+ 3.0 refresh

  7. SCE Roadmap SCE 2.x base only gets critical revenue-driving enhancements to reduce maintenance windows: TSAM Upgrade, CBO Automation (March) Pricing Actions (2.3) Free Trials (2.3) Import/Migration Capability (2.3) SCE 3.0 will support production applications in the Cloud Native model. SCE 3.0 drumbeat begins with Analyst Relations campaign (i.e., Gartner ½ day session). CloudFirst Lab acts as first target for 3.0 Alpha. Hadoop effort also begins in CloudFirst Lab with client pilots as early as 2Q.

  8. SCE Roadmap Content

  9. What does this mean to ISVs? • Benefits? • Standard based approach – no lock in! • Use industry standard management API – bring in existing automation scripts • Much improved portability story, • From PureFlex to SmartCloud Enterprise • even onboard images enabled outside of IBM • OpenStackwith Enterprise features added and commercial support • Driving innovation with Agile development tooling • Speed of deployment – almost instantaneous! • SCO • Why IBM, not Vmware, How real is it? What about • Will my existing stuff work? • YES. Ensure ISV workload continuity is #1 priority. • Existing Virtual Appliance will continue to work

  10. What does this mean to IDR? • Benefits? • Bring outdated SCE on-par with industry leaders (AWS, Rackspace) • Onboard cloud-centric ISVs workloads, eliminate vendor lock in • Hybrid cloud • enable ISV workloads faster • Challenges • What about 2013 revenue? • Public cloud: (SCE) Share our Open/Standard approach and convince partner to start nowto secure their benefits. • Opportunity to get adapters • Public cloud: (SCE+) TBD after SCE refresh

  11. Use OpenStand as sweetener to the Cloud conversation you started - Customize your conversation: where are you in cloud adoption 3 2 Innovate w/ flexible biz models 1 disrupting Enable Hybrid Cloud strategy Run on-premise app in the Cloud exploring enabling

  12. 3 Cloud Centric 2 Cloud Enabled via Patterns 1 Cloud Enabled Image centric enablement move on-prem solution to cloud Target offering, SC Entry, SCE/E+, PureFlex Application centric enablement package automation and best practice Target offering PureAS, SCAS, SCO Services centric enablement Highly automated and built in resiliency/HA Targeting offering SCE/Cloud OE • OpenStack impact • Improve workload portability • Faster ISV enablement, and take over workloads running on competitor clouds • Enable cloud resiliency and cross cloud bursting story • OpenStack impact • Improve workload portability • Adopting standard automation tool (Heat, Chef, Puppit) allows us onboarding ISV faster • OpenStack impact • IBM now can support Cloud Centric workloads • Allow us to onboard new breed of cloud centric tool vendors (NoSQL, Hadoop)
