  2. Spiral galaxy • Our galaxy, the milkyway, is a spiral galaxy • Spiral galaxies look like a pinwheel! • The central disk has newly forming stars in it

  3. Elliptical Galaxy • They range in shape between a stretched out cucumber, and a squashed in football • It is believed that most of the galaxies in the universe are elliptical • These galaxies have some of the oldest stars in the universe

  4. Irregular galaxy • These have no regular shape • They are full of both old and new stars

  5. Star clusters • Galaxies vary widely in brightness, size, mass, colour, and speed of spin • They contain two kind of star clusters: • Globular clusters: a group of stars held together in a spherical shape • Open clusters: a scattered group of stars
