A little history • All new NARFE members have been required to belong to a chapter and pay Chapter Dues in addition to National Duesfor several years • Chapter dues support chapter activities. • However, over 95% of NARFE members are passive and do not take advantage of chapter activitiesnor participate in chapter operations or elections Prepared by eNARFE Florida (10-12)

  4. The world has changed • In late 2010, the NARFE NEB authorized eNARFE, the electronic chapter, as a new option within the requirement for Mandatory Chapter Membership • NARFE needed to offer another membership option for those looking for something fitting their lifestyle Prepared by eNARFE Florida (10-12)

  5. eNARFE is born • The Virginia Federation, at the request of NARFE HQ, was the first to set up an eNARFE Chapter, Chapter 2363, and then NARFE HQ took it over Prepared by eNARFE Florida (10-12)

  6. eNARFE option made available to every Federation - eNARFE in Florida • NARFE Florida, Inc., was the 2nd Federation a few months later with eNARFE Florida Chapter 2364 • eNARFE Florida is not operated by HQ staff, it is operated by NARFE members in Florida, and • Remains the only state operated eNARFE chapter • eNARFE Florida is open to any NARFE member in the world Prepared by eNARFE Florida (10-12)

  7. eNARFE has proven to be • A great recruiting option, and • A great retention option which • Provides current zip-code based chapter members an alternative choice that prevents them from dropping their NARFE membership, and • A viable option for former members who want to return to NARFE Prepared by eNARFE Florida (10-12)

  8. How does eNARFE differ from a zip-code based chapter? • eNARFE has no face-to-face meetings or social functions • eNARFE has no newsletter • eNARFE has an active website • eNARFE has active blogs Prepared by eNARFE Florida (10-12)

  9. eNARFE communicates frequently • eNARFE communicates up-to-date information to its members frequently, using NARFE’s internal email system, its website, and its blogs • The info eNARFE provides on its website is available 24 hours a day through the internet • For an eNARFE member, Retirement Life Magazine is the only hard-copy form of communications Prepared by eNARFE Florida (10-12)

  10. How much does it cost to be a member of eNARFE Florida? • eNARFE Florida’s National Membership Fee is $40 a year • $34 for retired members who are on Dues Withholding • This is the same cost as National Dues for any zip-code based chapterafter the first year • eNARFE Florida Chapter dues are $0 • So, the total annual cost of membership in eNARFE Florida is $40 a year, or $34 if retired on DW Prepared by eNARFE Florida (10-12)

  11. How can eNARFE Florida operate without chapter dues? • NARFE Florida, Inc. supplied eNARFE Florida it with start-up funds • Like any chapter can do: • eNARFE Florida applied for and received Chapter Assistance funds for recruiting, retention and PR, from NARFE Florida, Inc. (Florida Federation) • eNARFE Florida applied for and received Matching Funds from HQ for recruiting and public relations • eNARFE Florida sells advertising on its website Prepared by eNARFE Florida (10-12)

  12. eNARFE has minimal targeted expenses • eNARFE Florida’s overhead expenses are minimal and targeted almost exclusively to recruiting and retention…Why? • HQ has not printed any eNARFE recruiting or retention collateral or applications • Until HQ does, eNARFE Florida finds it necessary to print its own collateral Prepared by eNARFE Florida (10-12)

  13. eNARFE Florida is not just for its members • eNARFE Florida is a subsidiary ofNARFE Florida, Inc. • eNARFE Florida is not in a District • Oversight is provided by the Executive VP • All NARFE members have access to the eNARFE Florida website, • Except for its blogs, which are limited to its members Prepared by eNARFE Florida (10-12)

  14. www.eNARFEFL.net • Your last name and NARFE ID number are all that is needed for any NARFE member to enter and see the eNARFE Florida website, www.narfe.org/eFlorida • If someone goes to the eNARFE Florida website without a NARFE ID, they will only be able to see part of the website Prepared by eNARFE Florida (10-12)

  15. No eNARFE Associate Members? Prepared by eNARFE Florida (10-12) • Except for EVP Pappa, eNARFE Florida, like eNARFE Chapter 2363 has no Associate Members…Why? • NARFE HQ’s member database does not capture AM information, and eNARFE Florida only has one database, the HQ database • If and when HQ starts to gather AM data, AMs in eNARFE may become an option

  16. Want to enjoy all that eNARFE has to offer, and a zip-code based chapter, too? Prepared by eNARFE Florida (10-12) • A member can be a member of eNARFE Florida and an AM of a zip-code based chapter if the chapter has AMs and the member wants to continue to be involved in the social or other aspects of one or more zip-code chapters • In that way, the member has access to all the up-to-date emails sent…and the eNARFE Florida blogs • The AM would still have to pay chapter dues to the Chapter where they are an AM • Several of our members have done this!

  17. Recruit for NARFE – not your chapter! • eNARFE Florida is an option for current and potential members to be a NARFE member in a manner which may better suit their lifestyle • Alternately, current, former andpotential members may want the social interaction of a zip-code based chapter • Either way, members, former members and potential members are entitled to know their options Prepared by eNARFE Florida (10-12)

  18. For more information Prepared by eNARFE Florida (10-12) • Marc Harris at MarcaHarris@gmail.com • Ben Pappa at retatc@centurylink.net

  19. A NARFE member is a NARFE member no matter what chapter they choose to belong and NARFE needs the support of every member we can recruit and retainnow, more than ever!
