  8. Burn and Particle Control • Control issues • Ensure sufficient fuel (D+T) in the core • Pellets (ETS modules planned for 2009) • Ensure that the core is hot enough • NBI, ICRH, ECRH (ETS modules in 2009/2010) • Ensure sufficient exhaust of ash (He) • Edge codes (coupling planned 2010) • Ensure sufficient upstream separatrix density so that divertor heat loads are controlled and that target erosion made small enough • Edge codes (coupling planned 2010) • Probably also need to puff radiating impurities • Core impurities (ETS modules planned for 2009) • Edge impurities (coupling planned 2010) • Ensure density in front of ICRH and LH antennas sufficient • Some IMP3 work planned in 2009, fully coupled in 2010 ITM plans wrt Fuelling and Particle Control 2009-03-19

  9. Burn and Particle Control, II • Control issues • ELMs • IMP1 work on linear stability thresholds • IMP2 work on non-linear modules (IMP4 also interested) • IMP3 already treats some aspects in edge fluid codes • Coupling in 2010 • New kinetic codes being ported to ITM in 2009 • Fast particle losses • IMP5 • New kinetic codes being ported in 2009 • RMP • Some work in edge codes ITM plans wrt Fuelling and Particle Control 2009-03-19

  10. Modelling of Particle Sources in the IMP5 ITM-09-IMP5-T7: DEVELOPMENT OF A NBI SOURCE MODULE Particle sourses within IMP5: Sources from NBI injection (IMP5-T7 is devoted for that purpose); nuclear reaction products in the Fokker-Planck models (simplified model IMP5-T3) and advanced Monte Carlo codes IMP5-T6 and IMP5-T5); Gas fuelling is naturally included in 3D Fokker-Planck codes IMP5-T6 and IMP5-T5 in the simplified model IMP5-T3 the modelled or experimental density profiles are used as input. Pellet injection no IMP5 task, can be included by taking into account of the change in the density profiles from transport simulations. 11. NBI Particle Sources ITM-09-IMP5-T7: DEVELOPMENT OF A NBI SOURCE MODULE - OAW: V. Yavorskij - CEA: M. Schneider - TEKES: O. Asunta Description:The module should calculate the deposition of Neutral Beam Injected (NBI) ions in 2D (and possibly 3D). To be used as a general purpose module for the NBI source term in Fokker-Planck codes. Deliverables:A code conforming to ITM-TF standards; ready to run on the ITM-TF platform (July 2009). A report describing the method and its applicability (September 2009) A report on code verification/benchmarking (December 2009); Code validation (continues).
