African Resistance

  • Africans resisted European attempts to colonize their lands

  • Europeans had high amount of superior arms

  • Africans could raise an army and would surprise the Europeans with their military ability

  • All attempts would ultimately fail

  • Led by Samori Toure who fought the French for 16 years

  • East Africa resisted Germans in planting cash crops

  • Maji Maji Rebellion

  • East Africans had a belief in magic water as there main weapon

  • Germans had machine gun posts

  • Magic water does not work and the Germans kill 75,000 Africans

  • 150,000 died of famine

  • Ethiopia defeats the Italians at the Battle of Adowa in 1896

  • Menelik II continued to collect weapons for future foreign problems
