Categories of Generators • Households • CESQG – (Conditionally Exempt Small Quantity Generators) • Generate less than 100 kg of hazardous waste per month • SQG – (Small Quantity Generators) • Generate more than 100 kg but less than 1000 kg of hazardous waste per month • LQG – (Large Quantity Generators) • Generate more than 1000 kg of hazardous waste

  4. Options for properly disposing of your electronic waste • Donate the items to your local schools or non-profit agencies. (Make sure all of your data has been properly removed prior to donating your items) • Repair or upgrade existing system. • Recycle the item through a collection system.

  5. What type of products are typically accepted?

  6. Problem with Electronic waste A typical PC contains the following components: • 25% Glass • 23% Plastic • 21% Iron • 14% Aluminum • 7% Copper • 6% Lead • 2% Zinc • 2% Other metals

  7. 70% of heavy metals in landfills come from electronic waste.

  8. Consumer electronics make up about 40% of the lead in landfills.

  9. Fluorescent lights contain mercury and mercury containing devices. • 8,484 feet of Fluorescent bulbs were recovered during this six (6) hour event in Exeter Township.

  10. MERCURY • Mercury is toxic through inhalation, ingestion, skin absorption • Immediate Exposure effects: • Pneumonitis, Chest Pains, Shortness of Breath and Coughing. • Long Term effects: • Nervous system impact, reproductive and developmental impact

  11. All of the electronic waste is separated by category and shrink wrapped at the collection site to be shipped to their Allentown facility for recycling.

  12. The community takes advantage of the collection day!

  13. 152,037 pounds of electronic waste, was collected for recycling on April 17th & 18th in Exeter. 152,037 pounds of Electronic waste 1,345 pounds of batteries 573 pounds of light ballasts 8,484 feet of fluorescent bulbs 50 Compact and HID lamps

  16. Amount of Freon Waste collected Air Conditioners and Dehumidifiers ( one – 53’ trailer – approximately 20 tons) Refrigerators / Freezers ( Three – 40 yard roll-off containers – approximately 15 tons)
