PTF refined • Implications of minimal patient data for trial search: • Age, gender, and location are now enough to trigger • Should use case be initiated upon patient referral? • What percentage of patients are walk-in vs referral? • Can a patient be diagnosed with a cancer by primary physician? • If not, would a suggested diagnosis by supplied? • Could suggested diagnosis be used for initial search? • Can a patient be staged by a primary physician? • If not, is a suggested stage ever supplied by primary? • Laboratory tests • Would oncologist take test results form referral or order new? • Would any new tests be ordered to be completed before initial visit? • Would primary ever order tests to be interpreted by oncologist?

PTF refined (cont) • What elements in a referral are useful to a trial search? • Does the problem list originate in referral order? • Can we map problems to attribute(s) of clinical trials (i.e. if non-cancer diagnosis related to digestive track -> intestinal cancers?) • Does some presentment recorded in the referral usually clue you in to a type of cancer? • Should we try to tease out rules for what to query in absence of: • Diagnosis (look for prevention trials) • Staging (look for
