  5. Agriculture Basics- The Facts • 1. Agriculture is the growing, raising, research, development, marketing, selling, repairing, and movement of crops, livestock, and their by-products.

  6. Agriculture Basics- The Facts • 2. At least 17% of all Americans work in agriculture. That’s almost 75 million people. • 3. There are over 300 career opportunities in agriculture. They range from jobs working in crop fields to jobs working in scientific laboratories. • 4. 17% of Americans work in agriculture.

  7. The Importance of Agriculture • 5. Where would we be without agriculture? Naked, Hungry, and Homeless. • Agriculture provides people with fibers for clothing, all of our food, and materials used for building homes, schools, and more.

  8. The Dollars and Cents of Ag • 6. Each year agriculture contributed 62.6 billion dollars to the NC economy. Agriculture is the single largest industry in NC, employing more people (20%)and contributing more money to the economy(22%) than any other industry.
