  1. Nutrition

  2. Definion of Nutrition • Nutrition is the process of providing or obtaining the food necessary for health and growth.

  3. Definition of Body Mass Index(BMI) • Huh? Would you like a translation? Here it is: For your information (FYI), your body mass index (BMI) is pretty darn important (PDI) • Body mass index is a calculation that uses your height and weight to estimate how much body fat you have. Too much body fat is a problem because it can lead to illnesses and other health problems.

  4. Ideal Weight *An ideal weight calculator is an innovative concept. It provides a more detailed and accurate explanation of what a person’s weight should be based on a number of criteria. That is, all someone has to do is plug vital stats into the calculator. These stats include age, height, weight, etc. When the calculator provides the information, it will be far closer to accurate than what appears in a book. Again, the information will be compiled by examining specific figures as opposed to presenting a “ready made” figure based on extreme generalization.

  5. Body Mass Index(BMI) • Body Mass Index(BMI) is a heuristic proxy for human body fat based on an individual's weight and height. BMI does not actually measure the percentage of body fat. It was invented between 1830 and 1850 by the Belgian polymath Adolphe Quetelet during the course of developing "social physics".

  6. Body Mass Index(BMI) Table • A BMI between 18.5 and 24.9 is considered a healthy weight. • A BMI between 25 and 29.9 is considered overweight. • A BMI of 30 and above is considered obese.

  7. Definition of Food Pyramid • A graphic representation of predatory relationships in the food chain, in which various forms of life are shown on different levels, with each level preying on the one below it, so that as the pyramid narrows toward the apex, the number of types decreases as the reliance on predation grows.

  8. The Food Pyramid • The food pyramid is an outline of what to eat each day based on the Dietary Guidelines . It's not a rigid prescription but a general guide that lets you choose a healthful diet that's right for you.

  9. The Career related to Nutrition • Nutritionists : The person who plan nutrition programs, supervise food service production or control the serving of meals in clinical settings. • Nutrition Consultant : A nutrition consultant completes food, nutrition and advanced science courses in an effort to obtain certification for nutrition consulting.

  10. Conclusion You have now learned about the food pyramid and its importance for helping you make healthy eating choices.  You are able to plan healthy meals to eat for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks for both home and school.  You are now capable of making nutritious choices for a healthier life style.  If you enjoyed this project and want to continue working on it, here are some suggestions to further the work on your project: 1. Create next month's lunch menu, making sure there is a proper balance of food from the food pyramid. 2. Plan the meals for your home by creating a menu with healthy choices. 3. Design signs for the school that promote the healthy food choices your have created to engage all the students in the school.
