5. What about 下さい？ ください　 is not appropriate when making a request from a superior or non-peer. This is more like a command. The previous forms are less forceful ways of asking a request.

8. The Plan • Over the next four weeks we will be working on what you have to accomplish in the “interview”. Remember that this is going to be conversational style. So your interview 先生 will not be drilling you with questions. They will be interacting with you to get a sense of your overall accomplishments over the past two years. They will be giving you a grade, so you do need to practice!

10. What you do… • Depends on what they say. • Most likely: • Confirm the name of the interviewer. • Introduce yourself • Ask if it is okay to sit down if they do not offer. (Don’t sit until you have their approval.)

36. ～て＋あげましょうか/あげようか This form is used to offer explicit help, not just willingness to do something which ましょう/よう indicate. Do not use with superiors because it indicates that the speaker is doing a favor for the listener. So here is how you would use it アリス：けしごむ、持っていないんですが、誰か貸してくれない。 石田：じゃ、ぼくのを貸してあげようか。 アリス：ありがとう。

39. GNIV:Expressing conditions and sequence, using the plan past form +~ら ～たら is one of several expressions for conditionals (If A, then B). Aたら、B （B is valid, contingent on the fulfillment of A. That is, the event, action or situation in B is realized if and when the condition A is met.)
