  2. Clickers • Since 1998 clickers have been used at universities/colleges, • The “clicker” looks like a TV remote, uses radio frequency to record responses to a portable station, e.g., PowerPoint. • Uses: • Facilitate discussion by polling students' opinions and discussing the reasons for their opinions • Records attendance in large lecture classes and decreases grading time by collecting student answers to exams/quizzes • Shown to increase students' attention/interests and increases participation • Collects immediate feedback about students' understanding of lecture topics so confusion can be addressed quickly • Allows students to share, discuss, and change their opinions before answering a question • Collects data on course topics or learning preferences throughout the cycle of a course, and also increases the student’s retention of the material • Can be purchased online, or in bookstores/ any office supply store at around $35 dollars • http://www.google.com/products?sourceid=navclient&rlz=1T4ADBF_enUS295&q=buy+classroom+clickers&oe=UTF-8&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wf&oi=property_suggestions&resnum=0&ct=property-revision&cd=1 • Links: • http://telr.osu.edu/clickers/ • http://connect.educause.edu/Library/ELI/7ThingsYouShouldKnowAbout/39379?time=1233107408

  3. Books vs. Online Databases • Books have been the primary source of literature for many years until online databases were created. • Books were expensive and the primary housing was a library. • The cost of building such libraries and hiring many employees to maintain the library was not as cost effective as online databases. • Online databases made much easier for libraries to house books online, which meant that costs of running a library would decrease. • Online databases store books online for the users to go and download • Many Universities host much of the material they have online, for example the University of Arizona has its own library site, Library Webpage, which has many resources such as Ereserve an online articles database and also other links to text from books etc.Online databases have made educational texts much more available to students and have lessened the need to go to your local library because everything can be done from home. • A great example of a online book database is HalfBakery’s website. It is a huge online database that has been used for over 5 years. HalfBakery

  4. Smartboards • Interactive white board. • Large touch controlled screen. • Image is projected onto screen by a projector. • Can use digital pens on fingers to write on board • Can click, drag, point, draw. • Used in education, business, and government. • Connected wirelessly or by USB port. • First invented in 1991 by SMART. • First board to provide touch control of computer.

  5. Smart Podium • Smart Podium allows the teacher to have control over the classroom with one touch. The teacher can switch between the screen, projector, the lights, the volume, the computer and between the video player. • Smart Podium allows the teacher to use many technological advances with ease in an effort to captivate and teach the students • Can purchase a basic smart podium for around $1,778.00 • http://www.qvctc.commnet.edu/media/podium/index.asp • http://74.125.47.132/search?q=cache:j0aOkOV8LBkJ:uhaweb.hartford.edu/fcld/FCLDInstructions/SMART%2520Podium_generic.doc+smart+podium&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=8&gl=us

  6. Pointer Pens • With the use of PowerPoint and the internet in the classroom the remote laser presentation pointer has helped educators fully use internet and PowerPoint to the fullest by paging up and down as well as using the laser feature to point out specific items • This tool out shines the pervious wooden pointer used in classrooms of my time but taking full advantage of new technologies in the classrooms like PowerPoint and internet. • Where to find pointer pen valued at $16? • amazon.com, alpec.com, ebay.com, greenpearle.com  • http://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Remote-Laser-Presentation-Pointer/dp/B001N4K1ME
