  2. What is nsbe Jr. Pre College Initiative (PCI)? • The Pre-College Initiative (PCI) program is designed to stimulate the interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics fields, or STEM. The goal is to encourage students in grades K–12 to attend college and pursue technical degrees. Our PCI program provides activities to help students discover firsthand how engineering and technology relate to the world around them and discover the excitement of academic excellence, leadership, technical development and teamwork.

  3. How do we START a Nsbejr. chapter • Starting a new NSBE chapter simply requires submitting a petition for a new chapter. Click on https://nsbe.networkats.com/members_online/submissions/substart.asp?action=welcome&cid=398 • “Petition to start a Chapter.” To find out the status of an existing petition, e-mail membership@nsbe.org. • You will need the following information for the creation of your chapter • Advisor (for PCI) • Chapter officers • Contact information • Address • FULL CHAPTER NAME • Chapter type • PCI (NSBE Jr.)

  4. NSBE Jr. Tool kit INFORMATION • NSBE JR. Website http://www.nsbe.org/NSBE-Jr/Welcome.aspx • NSBE JR. Tool Kits • Engineering Design Competition (EDC) Middle School • The purpose of the Team Engineering Design Competition is to expose pre-college students to a hands-on, team oriented, collaborative activity that involves mathematics, physics, mechanical engineering, software engineering, computer engineering, electrical engineering, and industrial engineering. During the engineering design competition, pre-college student teams build a prototype model of an existing or potential technical innovation. Upon completion of the design project, teams will exhibit their designs at the Fall Regional Conferences held in each of the six NSBE regions and then go on to compete at the Annual Convention. For more information and Tool Kit http://www.nsbe.org/NSBE-Jr/Competitions-and-Contests/EDC/middle-School.aspx • Kid Zone Science Olympiad • The purpose of the Kid Zone Conference is to increase students in grades K-5th interest in Science, Technology, Engineering careers to allow them to excel academically and succeed in High School and college. NEW THIS YEAR: Kid Zone Conference Will Feature An Elementary Science Olympiad! For more information and Tool Kit http://www.nsbe.org/NSBE-Jr/Competitions-and-Contests/Kid-Zone.aspx

  5. Future Technologist, Engineers, Aviators, Mathematicians and Scientist (FTEAMS) • Goals • Develop a component of the PCI program which is NSBE Jr. This chapter will serves as the membership category for pre‐college students and institutions that are officially chartered with NSBE. NSBE Jr. embers and chapters are at the core of PCI, as they are the primary focus and beneficiaries of PCI programs. • Objective • Develop and Mentor children within the NSBE structured Toolkits and Competitions. • Kid Zone - Competition (Science Olympiad) • Engineering Design Competition (Middle School) • Try-Math-A-Lon

  7. Future Technologist, Engineers, Aviators, Mathematicians and Scientist (FTEAMS) KID ZONE K-5

  8. Future Technology Engineering Aviation Mathematics and Scientist (FTEAMS) KIDZONE (K-5) • PURPOSE: • The purpose of the Kid Zone is to increase students in grades K‐5th interest in Science, Technology, Engineering careers to allow them to excel academically and succeed in High School and college. • GOALS: • Compete in the Science Olympiad which seeks to foster team building and communication through the various activities, as team members meet and start to work with new people. • COMPETITION: • Elementary Science Olympiad is a team event that combines theory and hands‐on projects. The Kidzone ESO is designed to stimulate enthusiasm for science and mathematics through competitions in skills and knowledge. Students meet for a program of competitive events in an academic setting. The competition is open to grades 3‐5. Grades K‐2 will compete in a noncompetitive league. Teams of up to 5 will compete in 18 different events at the NSBE National Convention. • Ten Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) Skills

  9. Future Technology Engineering Aviation Mathematics and Scientist (FTEAMS)KIDZONE (K-5) • COST • There is no cost to participate in the Kidzone competition other than NSBE Jr. Membership. Kidzone funding is provided by gifts and volunteering to NSBE. If you or another party would like to contribute to the NSBE Kidzone program, please see the Contributions to Kidzonesection in this toolkit. • Cost would include computers (possible), participation in national competition (travel registration, etc..) • MEMBERS • Goal for 2013-2014 would be 5

  10. Future Technologist, Engineers, Aviators, Mathematicians and Scientist (FTEAMS) Middle School Engineering Design Competition

  11. Future Technology Engineering Aviation Mathematics and Scientist (FTEAMS)Middle School Engineering Design Competition • Purpose: • To expose pre-college students to a hands-on, team oriented, collaborative activities that involve mathematics, physics, mechanical engineering, software engineering, computer engineering, electrical engineering, and industrial engineering. • Goals: • To design a project that will be exhibited at the Region I Fall Regional Conference and or the National Convention.

  12. Future Technology Engineering Aviation Mathematics and Scientist (FTEAMS)Middle School Engineering Design Competition • Competition: • The team will consist of exactly four NSBE Jr. Members (no more no less), and exactly one Advisor per team. Students may only be a member of one team and uphold one position. • The following job titles must be filled by each team member(s) • 1 Industrial Engineer • 1 Mechanical Engineer • 1 Electrical Engineer • 1 Computer Engineer • The team will be required to meet a minimum of once per week. During this weekly meeting the following is to take place: research, planning, and production of their design • The team must acquire their own LEGO MINDSTORM NXT 2.0 kit for approximately $300.00

  13. Future Technology Engineering Aviation Mathematics and Scientist (FTEAMS)Middle School Engineering Design Competition • COST: • Approximately $300.00 per Robot Kit • Participation at Fall Regional Conference and or National Convention (Registration Fee, Transportation Cost, Lodging Cost, Food Cost) • MEMBERS: • Goal for 2013-2014 would be four (4)
