3. What is Title 1? Federal Program under Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) Financial assistance to school districts to meet the needs of educationally at-risk students. Used to provide extra instructional services and activities which support students identified as failing or most at risk of failing mathematics, reading, writing, science, and social studies. ESSA provides flexibility for more whole-child educational needs.

4. Designation Status There are three Designations: Priority, Focus and Alert Because Odyssey Scholars are progressing and meeting and surpassing the state assessment targets, Odyssey can proudly say that we are none of these.

5. Types of Title 1 Allocations There are different types of allocations Targeted Assistance • A program that provide services to eligible children identified as having the greatest need for special assistance School Wide - Odyssey • A comprehensive reform strategy designed to upgrade the entire educational program

6. Title 1 Expenditures Odyssey uses Title 1 money in the following ways: • Staffing (teachers, paraprofessionals, technology support) • Student Support and Resources • Technology • Teacher Training • Family Engagement (personnel and supplies) • Administrative Oversight

7. Odyssey’s Schoolwide Requirements We are a Schoolwide Program which requires us to... • Conduct a comprehensive needs assessment. • Identify and commit to specific goals and strategies that address those needs. • Conduct an annual meeting to provide information about our plans. • Conduct an annual evaluation of the plan’s effectiveness and revise the plan annually or as necessary.

8. Schoolwide Improvement Plan List of needs based on staff surveys: • Continued support and mentoring for new and inexperienced teachers. • Implementing a Responsibility Centered Discipline and Increasing Student Engagement with fidelity across ALL grades and classrooms • PL in differentiation, relationships, rigor, and relevance. (Reading,Math, Science, Social Studies)

9. Needs continued • More connectivity (bandwidth) for our school in order to use all the technology available with less frustration. If you examine our Title I Schoolwide/School Improvement Plan, you will see that we addressed these needs on pages 7-8 (Goals and Action Plan)

10. What are our teacher qualifications? Odyssey has some flexibility to waiver state professional qualification requirements, however we follow the state credentialing guidelines, currently all our teachers meet state professional qualifications.

11. Family Engagement Policies There are many ESSA requirements for Parent and Family Engagement. Our school outlines those requirements and how we work together to meet them at all levels in our policies and compacts. Those levels and documents are: • District level-Local Education Agency Parental and Family Engagement Plan • School Level-Parent and Family Engagement Policy and Plan for Shared Student Success • Grade level-School-Parent Compact for Success

12. Funding for Parent Engagement Programs ESSA states that 1% of our annual Title I Funds must be reserved for Parent and Family Engagement activities Odyssey reserves additional funds to support the many programs and workshops through our Parent and Family Engagement Coordinator. Annual parent and family input directly impacts the funding and topics for the programs and workshops.

13. Curriculum and Standards Our school follows the Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE) standards for English Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Fine Arts. In May 2018, the Georgia Department of Education adopted the GSE in Physical Education to be implemented in 2019-20. Our curriculum is selected to follow the GSE standards, is selected by our school staff, and is adopted by our school board.

14. Assessments and Report Cards Some of the assessments our school utilizes are: • Georgia Milestones Assessment • GRASP • STAR Reading • GKIDS Our school sends home a paper copy of progress reports every 4-5 weeks and report cards every 9 weeks. All families may access their student’s grades through the PowerSchool Parent Portal.

15. Opportunities to be engaged • Respond to surveys- October and March Report Cards • Collaborate at input meetings- Family Focus Group, Spring Input Meeting • Join forces through events- APTT and Middle School Survival • Learn through Navigating Odyssey workshops • Prepare to move on during Transition nights • Participate in PTO meetings, Spirit Nights and other events • Volunteer your time, skills or connections • Inform yourself- subscribe to daily news and google calendar Check the school’s google calendar for current events!
