  1. Lesson 11 Objectives • Insert a picture. • Add a picture to a header or footer. • Create a hierarchy SmartArt shape. • Build a cycle SmartArt shape.

  2. Inserting a Picture • An image adds visual appeal to a worksheet. • Excel treats an image as an object on the draw layer. • The size, position, and other properties of a picture can be changed, depending on the image format.

  3. Inserting a Picture You can use images that are saved in a format that Excel recognizes. Typical image formats are TIF, GIF, PCX, PNG, JPEG, and more. The Insert Picture from File button is on the Insert command tab.

  5. The Picture Tools Format Tab This context-sensitive command tab appears when an image is selected. It provides many editing and formatting commands for the image.

  9. Cropping an Image Cropping an image is a way to hide part of an image. You can crop clip art or a picture from file. It takes practice to learn how to crop quickly.

Creating a Hierarchy SmartArt Shape • SmartArt is a feature that provides high-quality text illustrations. • SmartArt shapes are not linked to worksheet data. • SmartArt shapes include a text pane for working with the text. • SmartArt shapes include bulleted lists, organization charts, cycles, pyramids, and matrices.

  15. Creating an Organization Chart • An organization chart displays relationships among workers. • The SmartArt shape is in the Hierarchy category. • You can add or delete individual shapes within the chart as needed.

  19. Building a Cycle SmartArt Shape • A cycle is a diagram that illustrates a business concept. • Cycle diagrams show a series of tasks or events that continue and repeat in a circular manner. • Some diagrams are cycles; others are radials.

  21. Summary • You can place images on a sheet or a chart. Images can be taken from a disk or the Clip Organizer. • Pictures have properties that depend on how the image was originally created. You can edit some of these properties. • You can use pictures in headers and footers. Some images, based on their size and color, can be used to mimic a watermark.
