  2. Summarizing research • ElectronicText: anything published in computerized(electronic) format instead of being written on paper • Encyclopedias • Biographical dictionaries • Journals • Magazines • Newspapers • Book reviews?

  3. Summarizing research • Abstract: a very brief summary of a much longer text • Reading an abstract helps you decide whether or not a source is useful.

  4. Summarizing research • Paraphrase: to reword text in yourown words • Be accurate! • Rule out answer choices that contain information NOTfound in the original text. Purple book pages 74-78

  5. Summarizing research • Plagiarism: using someone’s ideas or copying someone’s exact words and claiming them as your own in a report, research paper, etc. • Rule out answer choices that are plagiarized.
