  9. Registration • Register through Self Service up until 2 weeks after start of classes, then through Course Change form (some conditions apply) • Automatically registered for SUBJ 9000 / MED 9900 each semester (about 5 weeks prior to start of classes) EXCEPT in first semester and after leave of absence • Remember: not registering for a course does not imply you have abandoned your program; unless you complete your program, are granted a leave of absence, have your program terminated, or formally withdraw by writing to the Dean, you will remain registered and charged fees indefinitely. • Can drop courses without academic prejudice up to 7 weeks after start of classes after consulting academic unit • Ensure you register for and complete all required program courses and GRIP 2012 Winter Welcome

  10. Registration • If you intend to register for two programs (undergrad or grad, at Memorial or elsewhere), notify SGS immediately • Consult SGS or academic unit before registering for non-program courses • Charged separately for these courses • Do not appear on graduate transcript or contribute to graduate GPA • Maximum time allowed to complete program: 7 years • If additional time is needed, must request extension via Request for Extension to Program form: http://www.mun.ca/sgs/c5b_waiver.pdf 2012 Winter Welcome

Fees • Graduate students are charged fees based on payment plan selected on Accept/Decline form • Payment plan can only be changed in your first semester • Program fees are charged for the duration of a payment plan, after which continuance fees are charged until you finish • If you finish early, you will be responsible for the remaining program fees in a lump sum payment • Important to note for some master’s programs not aligned with Plan A but also ineligible for Plan C (e.g., MER, MMus) and for graduate diploma programs • Remember to pay all fees on Self-Service or at Cashier’s Office by deadline to avoid late payment fee • Cannot register for graduate courses if you owe money from previous semester (but SUBJ 9000 / MED 9900 will continue to roll!) • Request for Recreation Fee Exemption form: http://www.mun.ca/sgs/rec_form.pdf • Opt out of GSU health and dental insurance through: http://www.gsumun.ca 2012 Winter Welcome

Making progress • Achieve a grade of ‘B’ or higher in program course (may vary for some programs) • Research students: submit Annual Progress and Supervisory Report once a year: http://www.mun.ca/sgs/Supervisory_Report.pdf • Ensure you complete non-academic requirements stipulated on your Program of Study (e.g., Animal Care Seminar, GRIP, language requirements for some PhDs) • Request for Leave of Absence form: http://www.mun.ca/sgs/loa.pdf • Request for program withdrawal: letter to the Dean • Respect deadlines for all forms! 2011 Graduate Student Orientation
