  1. Syllabus PlusUsing Syllabus Plus to automate your Buildings and Rooms Marie Pruze – Manager CATS Garry Peacock – Manager Engineering Operations Andrew Lau – Manager CYON Asia/Pacific

  2. UNSW • 40,127 students, 8,037 staff • Main campus covers 35 hectares, with over 85 buildings • Huge task to ensure high level of services and security to all rooms • Opening UNSW Asia in 2007 – fully run by UNSW Kensington • Syllabus Plus used since 1996 • Cardax used since 1990

  3. The Problem… • Provision of Security costs increasing • Sports grounds – “bookers” never left after conclusion of booking • Frequent “hijacking” of rooms • People overstaying their bookings • Often security issues (stolen equipment etc)

  4. The Situation… • Since 2003, UNSW has been using CARDAX FT to control locks and lighting • Since 1996, Syllabus Plus has been used as a centralised booking solution campus wide.

  5. The Solution… • Cardax and Cyon were put in touch to build a seamless link between Syllabus Plus and Cardax FT • Booking information needed to be transferred from Syllabus Plus into Cardax

  6. The Solution… • Rooms remained locked until 15 minutes before the next activity • For sports fields, lights would come on automatically 15 minutes before booking, and turn off 15 minutes after booking. • This ensured bookers vacated the venue after booking was completed. • Seamless link transferred changes in bookings every 10 minutes to CARDAX FT

  7. Benefits… • Immediate cost savings from sports fields ($50 charged from security each visit that a guard had to come on and turn on/off field) • Savings in staff time in locking and unlocking venues • Single point of entry for all security bookings (reducing human errors) • Energy savings – lights were switched off when Sports fields are not booked.

  8. Benefits… • Enhanced security – locked doors will reduce theft of equipment such as data projectors • Security staff no longer need to travel to all areas of campus to lock/unlock doors • “The link was simple to install, configure and use, but it was immediately effective. We had almost no complaints about the lights failing to switch on for all of our sports field bookings”

  9. The Future… • UNSW intends to upgrade strike locks on doors as opposed to swipe card access, which is considerably cheaper – during the refurbishment of campus • Link to other BACNet systems (Alerton, Automated Logic) has also been developed, now to run multimedia, and advance building management in Central Lectures Block rooms
