  2. NZZ was established by Croatian Parliament on December 21st The Board of NZZ was established at the end of 2003–a four-year Strategic plan was developed, and made operational. According to the Strategic plan, at the end of 2004 first programme launched – Development of PhD programmes More than 20 Calls for proposals launched ~ 250 projects funded NEW STRATEGIC PLAN About NZZ

  3. people ideas cooperation excellence • MAIN GOAL: • to promote science, higher education and technological development • to support the integration of Croatian scientists into European Research Area • in order to accomplish the mission, the NZZ invests in four strategic values To fund excellent projects and individuals that are internationally recognized and to impose the high level of competition

Brain gain programmes Croatian and foreign scientist; 5-10 years active research experience abroad, support from the institution; employment in Croatia; 100.000 EUR; 3-12 months Croatian and foreign scientistunder the 35; at least 2 years of postdoctoral education, support from the institution; 30.000 to 50.000 EUR; 3 years enable researchers from abroad to carry out research projects in Croatia; support from the institutionmandatory; 75.000 EUR; 3-12 months • Young scientists, up to 20.000 EUR for 12 months • Croatian candidates going abroad andforeign candidates coming to Croatia

Training of doctoral students programmes Improving quality of doctoral studies and to promote international mobility of young researchers during their doctoral studies; ~1000 EUR per month; 3-12 months Improving the quality of doctoral studies via training courses and summer schools; budget per project is 100.000 kn; co-financing of 25% is mandatory

Bilateral symposiums Goals - to foster the cooperationin development of joint projects Conditions - Supported symposiums will lead to development of joint projects - Inclusion ofresearchers from at least two Croatian universities or research institutes - Symposium coordinator employed by Croatian research or educational institution Symposium is held on the state territory of the Republic of Croatia or inpartner country Same research group is eligible to apply no more than two times • Eligiblecosts • - Travel costs • Participant accommodation costs • - Venue Costs • - Publication Costs • - Organisation Costs (including meals for participants) Funding 10.000 EUR per project

  9. EMBO Installation Grants – EMBO IGs WHY To help scientists to set up their labs in Croatia WHO Croatian and foreign life scientists who have spent two consecutive years abroad FUNDING Successful applicants will receive EUR 50.000 annually from the NZZ via EMBO

ESF programmes • announced the application for Support for Croatian Scientists Joining the ESF Programmesdeveloped in order to integrate Croatian scientists into European Research Area (ERA) • Support for Croatian Scientists Joining the ESF Programmes: • Research Networking Programmes EUROCORES programmes • ECRP programmes (European Collaborative Research Projects)

ESF programmes The NZZ funds Croatian scientists joining the following ESF programmes: • EUROCORES and ECRP PROGRAMMES • one EUROCORES/ECRP programme consists of more collaborative programmes (CRP) • CRP consists of number of individual programs (IP) - at least 3 from 3 different European countries • NZZ funds an individual project conducted by Croatian research group with maximally 50.000 € annually during 3 years • RESEARCH NETWORKING PROGRAMMES (RNP) • Networking activity covering all domains of the research spectrum • Average budget per project: 50.000-200.000 € annually
