  1. Smokejumpers By Mary Clare Culloty, Noah Niu, and Caleb Beard

  2. About The story is about a special firefighters who put out wild fires. They jump out of an aircraft and walk around with up to 80 lbs on their back. This hampered their ability to move quickly.

  3. What They Do • The smokejumpers get a call from the base. • They have to suit up with heavy gear and a motorcycle helmet and get ready for the ride. • They jump from an aircraft from a high altitude into a wildfire. • When they jump out, they are equipped with two days worth of food and needed supplies.

  4. How They Do It • Smokejumpers put out wild fires by setting up a special type of fence to the extent of surrounding the whole fire. • Once the fence is built the fire can no longer expand. • Finally, the smokejumpers put out the wild fire. • They rely on the helicopter to finish the job. With the helicopter from the sky they poor water on the “hot spots”.

  5. What Happens After • After the fire is officially put out the smokejumpers gather their supplies and head back to the base. • When at the base they wait for another call.

  6. Why We Need Them • If these people were not in our lives the fires could spread to homes and people, it is a shame we overshadow their line of work ! • Even though we may not notice these people they help us everyday and put their lives at risk. • Remind yourself to thank God for them and what they are willing to do.
