However, they undergo strenuous training, which would range between six months to more than a year. They learn technical skills related to the aircraft industry and how to cater to the passengers’ needs onboard the flight. As a cabin crew attendant, you have to respond to their needs and take charge in an uncomfortable situation. You should form excellent working relationships with the pilot, co-workers and passengers.

You have to be physically and mentally healthy to take care of the passengers and be active at every beck and call. Most airlines onboard only healthy candidates. Additionally, one has to always look presentable in their uniform. Both men and women attendants are expected to comply with the standards set by their airline company, which affects its image as well.

  10. 8. Decision Making skills As a flight attendant, you’re expected to have quick thinking skills in times of danger. You could be in charge of new problems that you need to solve using your problem-solving skills. It could be dealing with a difficult passenger or unfavourable weather conditions; you’re always expected to perform well under pressure. In such cases, you need to take an initiative to take charge of the situations as best as you can.

The passengers depend on you for a comfortable flight, hence, you should maintain your dignity throughout the flight. You must be culturally aware to handle passengers of all backgrounds, to ensure that you are not insensitive to a passenger’s beliefs. You are expected to maintain professionalism even after the final passenger gets off at the last destination.

  12. 10. Fluent language & Mathematical Skills You must speak fluent English to communicate with foreign passengers, and Hindi to communicate with Indian passengers. International airlines may conduct an English proficiency test to check your English-speaking skills as well. Your mathematical skills would be useful when selling inflight goods and dealing with change and currency exchange.
