Placing a Printer for Sharing • Create the printer on the server using Add Printer module on the server • Place the printer on the network for sharing • It can be placed for sharing during installation • Or by following the steps as in placing a soft resource such as directory for sharing • Define printer access permissions • Set other printer properties

  25. Placing a Printer for Sharing • If a printer is already designated to be shared during installation, it need not be placed for sharing at this tim • If an existing unshared printer connected to the server is to be shared, then it must be placed for sharing explicitly

  26. A Note on Share • Assigning long share names may prevent some MS-DOS machines on the network from accessing the printer • If MS-DOS machines are serviced on the network, it is desirable to assign a name conforming to the DOS 8.3 naming format
