  2. EVOLUTION OF THE COMPUTER • The history and evolution of computer are divided into two eras : • before 1940 • after 1940

BEFORE 1940 • In the beginning, human do calculation by fingers, stones, small woods etc. • Man tried to invent tools to make the calculation easier. • Computer history began with abacus create 5000 years ago. • Its called sempoa or cepoa. • Used in Babylonia and few Asian countries such as China. • Abacus has been used to build pyramid in Egypt many years ago. • In Malaysia, some Chinese traders still use abacus.

  4. After 1940 • 1642, Blaise Pascal invented Pascaline : the first mechanical calculator. • However, it can only does addition and subtraction.

In 1822, Charles Babbage introduced Difference Engine : a mechanical calculator with steam energy. • In 1833, Babbage gave idea of more powerful engine, Analytical Engine but he dies in 1871. • He left a complete notes and drawings of his new invention. • Analytical Engine contains modern computer features : • Input devices • Storage devices • Processor • Control Unit • Output devices 7. Charles Babbage had been called ‘Father Of Computer’ or ‘Modern Computer Architect’.
