  3. 2 Types of Bible Authority: • Specific Authority • with individual qualities that allow a distinction to be made or make a distinction necessary • – EncartaDictionary • Something particular; definite; unique; a particularly notable quality or attribute

  4. 2 Types of Bible Authority: Generic (Ex. “Hand me a Bible.”) Bible: Specific type of book…a Bible… …but generic in the sense it could be any Bible. Specific (Ex. “Hand me my KJV Bible.”) Specifics: Must be my Bible and must be my KJV Bible.

Expedients • Defined: • Something profitable, helpful or advantageous for practical reasons; something appropriate, advisable or useful in a situation that requires action. • In order for something to be expedient: • It must be lawful… • It cannot be specified in the word of God… • It must edify… • It must not offend the conscience of another Christian…

  6. Generic Vs. Specific Authority Example: Abraham Offers Isaac (Genesis 22:2) Then He said, "Take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you." (NKJV)
