compound information
Compound Information:
  • Compound 1 – Lactose
    • Molecular Formula: C12H22C11
    • Organic because it contains carbon.
    • Summary: Lactose has many food industry applications, both of pure lactose and lactose-containing dairy by-products, for one example its bland has made it able to be used as a carrier and a stabilizer for aromas and pharmaceutical products. Lactose isn’t added directly to many foods because it is less soluble then that of some other sugars that are more commonly used.  Infant formula is an exception, where the addition of lactose is necessary to match the composition of human milk.
compound information1
Compound Information:
  • Compound 2 – Magnesium Hydroxide
    • Molecular Formula: Mg(OH)2
    • Inorganic because it does not contain carbon.
    • Summary: Suspensions of magnesium hydroxide in water, often called Milk of Magnesia, are used as an antacid to neutralize stomach acid, and as a laxative. Magnesium hydroxide is also used as an antiperspirant underarm deodorant. Milk of magnesia is useful against canker sores (aphthous ulcer) when used topically. Milk of magnesia is sold for medical use as chewable tablets, capsules, and as liquids having various added flavors. It is primarily used to alleviate constipation, but also to relieve indigestion and heartburn.
compound information2
Compound Information:
  • Compound 3 – Zinc Oxide
    • Molecular Formula: ZnO
    • Inorganic because it does not contain carbon.
    • Summary: Zinc oxide is widely used to treat a variety of other skin conditions, in products such as baby powder and barrier creams to treat diaper rashes, calamine cream, anti-dandruff shampoos, and antiseptic ointments. In addition it is an ingredient in calamine lotion. Zinc Oxide can be used in sunscreen as well to protect against sun burns caused by the suns ultraviolet rays. Another application of it is cigarette filters.
compound information3
Compound Information:
  • Compound 4 – Folic Acid
    • Molecular Formula: C19H19N7O6
    • Organic because it contains carbon.
    • Summary: Folic acid is a water-soluble B vitamin. Since 1998, it has been added to cold cereals, flour, breads, pasta, bakery items, cookies, and crackers, as required by federal law. Foods that are naturally high in folic acid include leafy vegetables (such as spinach, broccoli, and lettuce), okra, asparagus, fruits (such as bananas, melons, and lemons). Folic acid is used for preventing and treating low blood levels of folic acid (folic acid deficiency), as well as its complications, including “tired blood” (anemia) and the inability of the bowel to absorb nutrients properly.
compound information4
Compound information:
  • Compound 5 – Copper Gluconate
    • Molecular Formula: C12H22CuO14
    • Organic because it contains carbon.
    • Summary: Copper Gluconate is the copper salt of D-gluconic acid. It is an odorless light blue or blue-green crystal or powder which is easily soluble in water and insoluble in ethanol. Dietary supplement -- metabolizable copper to treat copper deficiency. It is also used to treat acne vulgaris, common cold, hypertension, premature labor, Leishmaniasis, visceral postoperative complications.
category healthcare and medicinal products product information
Category: Healthcare and medicinal products. Product Information:

Name: Pepto-Bismol

Description: Maximum strength medicine for upset stomach and diarrhea.

Ingredients: Active - Bismuth subsalicylate. Inactive – Benzoic acid, flavor, magnesium aluminum silicate, methylcellulose, red 22, red 28, saccharin sodium, salicylic acid, sodium salicylate, sorbic acid, water.

compound information5
Compound Information:
  • Compound 1 – Benzoic Acid
    • Molecular formula: C7H6O2
    • Organic because it contains carbon.
    • Summary: Benzoic Acid is a colorless crystalline solid and a simple aromatic carboxylic acid. Benzoic Acid is an important precursor for the synthesis of many other organic substances. It is used for the treatment of fungal skin diseases such as tinea, ringworm, and athlete's foot. Benzoic acid was used as an expectorant, analgesic, and antiseptic in the early 20th century.
compound information6
Compound Information:
  • Compound 2 - Methylcellulose
    • Molecular Formula C6H7O2(OH)x(OCH3)
    • Organic because it contains carbon.
    • Summary: Methylcelluose is a hydrophilic white powder in pure form and dissolves in cold (but not in hot) water, forming a clear viscous solution or gel. It is sold under a variety of trade names and is used as a thickener and emulsifier in various food and cosmetic products, and also as a treatment of constipation. It is used for constipation because it increases viscosity and it is also in some ice creams.
compound information7
Compound Information:
  • Compound 3 – Saccharin
    • Molecular formula: C7H5NO3S
    • Organic Because it contains carbon.
    • Summary: Saccharin is an artificial sweetener. The basic substance, benzoic sulfilimine, has effectively no food energy and is much sweeter than sucrose, but has a bitter or metallic aftertaste, especially at high concentrations. It is used to sweeten products such as drinks, candies, cookies, medicines, and toothpaste. During the early 1970s linked saccharin with the development of bladder cancer in rodents. As a consequence, all food containing saccharin was labeled with a warning.
compound information8
Compound Information:

Compound 4 - Salicylic acid

  • Molecular formula: C7H6O3
  • Organic because it contains carbon.
  • Summary: Salicylic acid is a monohydroxybenzoic acid, a type of phenolic acid and a beta hydroxy acid. This colorless crystalline organic acid is widely used in organic synthesis and functions as a plant hormone. Salicylic acid has been shown to work through several different pathways. Although toxic in large quantities, salicylic acid is used as a food preservative and as bactericidal and an antiseptic.
compound information9
Compound Information:
  • Compound 5 - Sorbic acid
    • Molecular Formula: C6H8O2
    • Organic because it contains carbon.
    • Summary: Sorbic acid, or 2,4-hexadienoic acid, is a natural organic compound used as a food preservative. Sorbic acid and its salts, such as sodium sorbate, potassium sorbate, and calcium sorbate, are antimicrobial agents often used as preservatives in food and drinks to prevent the growth of mold, yeast, and fungi. In general the salts are preferred over the acid form because they are more soluble in water, but it is the acid form that is active.
