  6. Jack o’ latterns .. • There is an Irish story about a guy named stingy jack. One day stingy jack talked the devil into having a drink with him. Stingy jack convinced the devil to turn himself into a coin to pay for the drinks. Stingy Jack decided to keep the coin, and he put him in his pocket next to a cross which prevented him into changing back to his original form. Jack eventually freed him under the condition, that he would not bother Jack for 1 year and when he died he did not claim his hand. A year later Jack got the devil to climb a fruit tree, & Jack carved a cross in the tree. Jack made another deal that the devil could not bother him for 10 years. The legend goes God would not let an unsavory figure into Heaven.
